Yeah bubbles popping is enough to soak a layer of pebbles say 1”-2” thick then plug goes on that.
Ok, ill keep that in mind. Just for fun i might experiment with mediumless seed starting. Ill root it in paper towel until it has decent root, then sandwich it in split neoprene puck with root poking out bottom, throw it in bubble cloner. At that point it can live the next few weeks in the cloner. Move to hydroton once they are too crowded in cloner. Ive let clones go pretty far like that in the cloner and it worked out pretty well. Just dont want to let the roots get too tangled with eachother. Probably try 4 seeds in a 3 gallon bucket cloner. Not sure how easily a sprout will push its way out the top of the puck sandwiched around it but im gonna find out.

Looks like im gonna save these 2 sad plants. After posting i waited another day and saw zero change. Was probably 4 or 5 days that they were just completely flacid, no turgidity, completely monotone green all the way to center of growth tips (zero new growth). I still dont know exactly what happened but it seemed to me the plants were at a point that the root system could no longer support them. Just before the wilt there was a lot of plant growth and not many new roots. Last night i decided to try something. I cut most of the large leaves in half to massively reduce the amount of total foliage. I used to do this back in the day with fresh clones. Seemed to give them a better shot at taking hold before wilting and dying since the small amount of water coming up through the wet stem had less foliage to support. This afternoon they are pumped back up. One of them almost looks like no wilt at all, other one getting there. New light green growth happening, roots starting to take off. Not sure what happened but it looks like they will make it.

you can fill her up pass the bottom net pot if you want too, since you have air stones in them.
they wont drown, and the plants are fine. wont get big growth until the roots are formed.

im kinda thinking thats what gave me issues. thats what i did first couple weeks and then they wilted and almost died, maybe related to the constantly soggy root riot plug in there. anyway, they have come back to life now and have a huge explosion of roots so water level is doing fine a couple inches below pot. In the future i will avoid the root riot plugs completely with seeds. i started another thread on that subject, "experimental mediumless seed starting for dwc"

Never fill above bottom of net pot, cuzz, yes they will drown
Yeah, i actually upgraded to an even bigger air pump and now i fill to 2 inches below pot and let it drop even further. Root growth in that fine mist zone from popping bubbles is just explosive. Gives them a very nice dose of oxygen.
