ah it feels good to finally be creating this thread. ive been waiting a long time to start growing and now i finally can!

well first things first lets get a look at the grow area. Which happens to be a fireplace that never got finished. The fireplace is about 2.5' deep, 4' wide, and 3' tall with of course plenty of ventilation at the top :bigjoint:

for our lighting setup I chose cfl's. they are just best over all for my situation and will work nicely. all of the light fixtures and other materials i found around the house so that was a big help.

on to why were all here, the green. Since this is my first grow and im under experienced i will just grow some bagseed this time around. After this grow ill move on to some better seeds. I started germination today with the paper towel method and were on the way. So kick back, fire up a bowl, and watch the magic. i hope lol :-P

thats the subject of todays update! So today i went and picked up some 26 watt 6500k cfls to add to the light array. i still need to get a few more but it will be later tonight before that happens. After installing the rest of the lights i figured i should check the temp of the area after i kept the lights on for awhile. Turns out its staying a little cold, hanging right at 65 degrees. I plan on purchasing some emergency blankets and more lights tonight so maybe that'll help. Atleast its not too hot :-P ill post some more pics later tonight

i also have two huge ass mirrors that i could use for reflection alongside the mylar emergency blankets, what do you guys think?

make sure your cfls are CLOSE to the plants, like 1-2 inches, seriously, you will be impressed, just use 6500k for veg and 2700k for flower, i heard mixing them is not as good. good luck!

I would have the cfl's with inches of the plants. Also would paint all area white or use Mylar. What about fans and circ? Addind just an oscl. Fan does wonders for there growth and developement.

So i went out and bought a few more 6500k cfls and some space blankets,no more temp problems lol the temp hangs around 82-83 which is just about right :blsmoke:

i also check on the seeds today and they are starting to show tap roots  looks like tomorrow will be plantin day! ill keep updating frequently.

And here are some pics of todays work.. there is also a pic of the two huge ass mirrors i keep in front of the fireplace.

i will definitely be moving the plants closer to the light, just stuck those pots in there to see how they would look :-P

temps seem to be a little low.. 72-75 lights on, 62-65 with lights off. Is this alright?

also, i got some computer case fans today and will be wiring those up this weekend to improve circulation.. how long will it take these little guys to sprout anyway?...

lights look like a good distance, should take 24 to 48 hours to sprout. Dont use mirrors, the glass absorbs alot of the light since it has to pass through it twice. Temps sound good. Dont over water, and stay away from nutes till she asks for them. good luck

ive always wondered how much water is too much water? i watered them well today, but the soil was pretty dry when i checked it

dont go by how the soil looks on top, pick the pot up and see how heavy it is. Some people stick a finger in the soil a few inches... whatever works i guess. just to give you some idea on watering schedules, when i plant clones in soil i give em a good watering to start. Then usually i wont have to water them for 4 days or so. The lack of water in the top of the pot will force the roots to grow down in search of it. Too much water and your plant will start to develop spots on the bottom leaves working its way up. Some see this as nute burn so they flush the pot, then when that doesnt work they flush again. This obviously makes the overwatering worse. Give your seedlings time to pop some roots, the more air they get the faster they grow.
