First batch attempt

I'm a little old school And love my bong but I stumbled upon some quality shatter (I'll post a pic) and it was so good I had to look up the process. At the price I figured I'd give it a shot.
Did my research and bam. I used a mix of popcorn buds and sugar leaf. Just wondering how you guys make out ?

My first attemp I think I had the water too hot
And made more of a wax or honeycomb ?
I run a small tube 10-15g fits in it at a time
And blast about 1/2 to 3/4 a can per tube.
I ran 35-40g of trim and popcorn mix

Blasted into a Pyrex dish double boiler with boiling water. Let it sit and purge until all liquid was gone and the bubbles stopped. I popped the big bubbles then scraped it onto some parchment then moved the water to the flat top.i Heated the water to about 100 degree F
And placed the vacuum chamber in the water.

I vac'd slowing letting it muffin up slowly then releasing the vac and repeated until it was fairly small. The I removed it and kind of pressed it all together into a bar and did the same steps. Then I flipped it and left it in the vacuum chamber for about 3 hours. Until all activity stopped, flipped it let it go come more. And come out with this ?
Any suggestions on getting lighter colour ?
Or making it more shatter like ? Ended up with 6.1 g and then ran it a second time in another dish and got an additional gram (not so nice...that came out like a soft shatter)

Oh yeah , I had me trim in the freezer for over a day the tube was frozen as possible. As well as the butane was kept in the freezer for a few hours prior.

Now to figure out how to add pics ...image.jpg image.jpg First picture is what first got me so interested in shatter. The second is my first attempt.

Did you do that blasting into the Pyrex on the double boiler inside? If so NEVER do that again. Shatter. Easiest way imo. Freeze your butane and packed column. Buy Everclear. Use a quart size Pyrex measuring cup. Measure out some Everclear in the pyrex cup . Blast into the Everclear outside. Cover cup with paper towel. Allow to evape until the original Everclear volume. Freeze for 24-48hr. Strain through coffee filter. Place in Pyrex and purge at room temp or on heating pad. though use a heating pad before scraping up. that's how this was done. Though 200proof Ethanol instead of Everclear.

Hey thanks. Yes I did that. I was under the impression the everclear or winterizing was just to make 100% sure you got all the undesirable out. But I thought I needed to make it this way first and then go through everclear process. So that almost skips a step ?
Your stuff looks real good.
So after you've done the freezing and are straining it you strain back into another Pyrex similar to the one you blasted in originally ? And by purge you mean just naturally purge out or under vac ? How do you get it out of the Pyrex after ? Heat it and pour it out ?

I blast into a 1qt pyrex measuring cup. After going into a mason jar then the freezer. I strain back into the measuring cup. Then pour thin layers into large Pyrex baking dishes. Thin layers are also important to purge off the alcohol and not take forever either.

Ok that makes sense you don't lose much to residue switching containers all the time ? Or it's just alcohol left over just the oils float on top ?

It dissolves entirely into the alcohol that's how the straining works before evaporation. What's left in that filter are lipids. You will see whitish blobs floating in the alcohol mix. residuals left behind on containers are minimal.

Alright I'll have to look this method up and try it out.
Here is the stuff I ran today. It's weird though because my first batch came out honey comb style with very little heat and this batch I added heat with the flat top at no higher than 150 F then I'd shut it off and repeat moving the chamber off and on the griddle. Kind of a pain in the ass cheap thing can't keep a temp. Anyways it came out pretty nice I probably could have let it go a little longer but I'm pretty impressed with colour and clarity from mostly trim with some popcorn nugs
24g of material to a 4.5g slab

So I tried another run hoping to replicate my last one. I did end up with the same amount in the end 24g to 4.6g but I think I got it a little too warm during the vac.
Was running around 110f but I noticed it waxing a little bit in the middle left of the picture. And pulled it off tested it started creeping to 130F. Just wondering why it Swiss cheesed so much? I tried spreading it thinner than usual think I Just too spread too thin ?

My gauge says 30"hg obviously not possible especially at my elevation 3000+ .
I use refrigeration set that is zero'd well and a 7cfm pump. I try and slowly pull a vac to try and not muffin as much as well
Trying another 16g run at much lower temp ... See how she goes

Third batch 3.5g from the 16g popcorn and shake. Same thing, I never let it get over 115 F the smell and taste is great but still Swiss cheesed is the only way the get a thick glass like peice is bigger runs ? Or winterize it. Vac'd an hour on each side then left it under vac for another 2 hours.

The swiss cheese effect is just fine man those holes are perfectly fine man. As for color probably the material. How was trim processed?

I'm not sure how the trim was processed I got it from through a friend. I know its medically grown stuff(which probably doesn't mean much..) That he purchases and has to clean up himself. And yea since it is popcorn and shake I didn't expect it to be super clear.
