First attempt at cloning

Hey! This is my first time cloning. I have a simple shoebox,20W cfl(24/0),temperature is 85F. The first clone is in water (put it into rooting powder when cut at 45 angle and scraped a little at the bottom of the stem),have a plastic bag over to work as a dome and it's 7 days old.I change the water ever 3 days. There are no roots appearing, heard that it takes up to 2 weeks but the lower leaves are yellow and it looks very droopy.
Will this clone even root, bacause it looks pretty sad at the moment?

The other clone is in soil and only 3 days old.

Thank you for your help!

Take the dome away from the water clone, it does not need high humidity like the other one. Be patient.

you should invest in a seed starter/cloner kit mine came with a heat mat good nursery tray and a humidity dome with vents it was like 30 bucks and works great

When you chop the root system feeding a branch the clone can no longer uptake nutrients to grow. The clone is forced to sacrifice foliage to get energy to put new roots out. It will do this from the lowest set of foliage. This is normal. To help I like to fertilize a couple days before and foliar feed the night before. They stay green a lot longer. You are correct it will take ~2 weeks to clone without heat mats and/or airoponics systems.

I would keep the dome idea but use something like a 2 -litre clear bottle with the bottom cut off. Take the cap off and use that as a breather hole. Pull the bottle off once a day or every other day and mist the bottle inside with water, not the plant.

right a heat mat is great I get all mine rooting out within a week with rooting gel the gel is sopoused to be best cause it sticks to the cutting best the powder is sopoused to be the worst and the liquid aint to bad but you can just use a mild nutrient solusion as well the 2 litter trick should be fine for a dome

Thank you for your suggestions.I've read that gel is better than powder but this is what I bought,it surely can't be the main reason my clones arent rooting.I took the dome off the clone in the water,it looks pretty bad :) The one in the soil looks great!

Made another clone box from a plastic container,it's sealed with a plastic bag on top. It's by the window(no direct sunlight) and 11W cfl 24/7.Will open once a day to spray the walls, hope this works better.

Hey!

My clone rooted!!! :) I was just about to throw it away as it looks so bad and I did one last check and it happened!!woohooo my first clone! :D

Is there enough roots to transplant into soil?
Can I slowly begin putting it outside as soon as I transplant it or should I have it under 24/7 CFL for some time?

Please help me asap! Thanks!

when i cut clones i dont go crazy and start getting heat mats or put a plastic on top of it or anything like that. i simply cut it dip it in cloning powder and then put in soil inside a solo cup (party cups) thats it. and within 2 weeks i have full healthy roots. i do this everytime and to this day 2yrs later i still havent had an issue with clone not rooting. some people really go all out when cloning and still not get roots. the main thing is being patient thats all. good luck with your clones

Couldn't have said it better. I cloned for the first time this year and the only clone that didn't root was one that I dropped on the ground and couldn't find. I bought one of those clone domes and used it at first, but have since learned that clones will root under a lot of conditions. It just takes patience. That is the hardest lesson to learn about this hobby!
