fire hazard labels?

i have 2 40wat cfls on my week old plants , but the lamp says 60watt max ... but doesnt seem like its affecting it much. how big of a danger does this really present? ty.

also have a y-splitter on it

What isn't affecting what much?
Are your CFL's that you're talking about actual watts or equivalent?

The 60 watt equivalent bulbs are like 18 true watts. My guess is the watt restriction is heat related. Monitor the wires, plug and switch (if there is one) for heat if your bulbs are the bigger 40w ones. If anything heats up remove a bulb.

The warning is for incandescent bulbs.
You could run 3 cfl's from that socket.
Check the wattage on the bulb package and it will say 13 watts or 18 or whatever.

True watts are true watts. Don't worry about the equivalant. It the bulb uses 13 watts then add them up and never exceed the rated wattage of the lamp or the splitter or any cords etc.
