Fire Dept. watches house burn to ground with 3 dogs and cat inside over $75

A smoldering rage may be all that remains after Gene Cranick's home burned to the ground last week in Obion County, Tennessee.
Firefighters are usually the bold "vini, vidi, vici" sort, but those from neighboring South Fulton could only say "vini, vidi." They came. They watched. That's it.
Cranick lives outside of the city limits and he admits that he forgot to pay a $75 service fee that would have provided him with fire protection. Firefighters wouldn't lift a finger, much less the hoses that might have saved the house.
The fire reportedly started in some barrels outside. As the flames crept closer to the home, Cranick says he offered to pay whatever it would take. The plea fell on deaf ears. Hours later, the home was gone.
So were three dogs and a cat.
"They coulda' been saved if they put water on it. But they didn't do it," said Cranick.
The South Fulton firefighters did show up and managed to save a neighbor's field. The neighbor had paid the fee. But they would provide no heroics for the Cranicks. A local news report shows them climbing back on their trucks, flames still dancing over what was once the family's home.

this happened in 'the volunteer state'...i wonder if the irony of that escaped them.

"hello, this is the fire department."
"you say your home is burning down with your pets inside?"
"can I have your account number please?"

hahahaha, i just read that a family member of the guy whose house burned down just knocked the shit out of the fire chief!

South Fulton’s fire chief was assaulted Wednesday in the aftermath of a fire where firefighters were unable to respond because the property owner had not paid a rural fire subscription fee.
South Fulton Fire Chief David Wilds was treated at an area hospital after being assaulted about 5:45 p.m. at the city’s fire station, located in the South Fulton Municipal Building.
Timothy A. Cranick, 44, a resident of Buddy Jones Road near South Fulton, was arrested and charged with felony aggravated assault, according to South Fulton Police Chief Andy Crocker.
Crocker said the assault stemmed from a fire that occurred earlier in the day and he identified Cranick as a family member of the person whose property burned.
He said Cranick allegedly came to the fire station looking for Wilds, according to witnesses. When the fire chief identified himself and asked if he could help him, Cranick allegedly struck Wilds.
“He just cold-cocked him,” Crocker said, based on witness statements.
Crocker said Wilds was knocked down, rendering him virtually defenseless. He said Cranick was pulled off the fire chief by other firefighters who restrained him until additional help arrived.

Cranick was taken to the Obion County Law Enforcement Complex and was later taken to the hospital in Union City for treatment of a hand injury sustained in the incident.

It seems that people these days dont act on their own beliefs or instincts, instead on who pays their god damn bills. Im sure it was the boss saying "dont do anything unless it spreads, he hasnt paid." If any of those firefighters had balls or morals they would have said fuck the bosses and hosed that shit down.

good point.

i'm pretty sure none of the 9/11 responders who risked and gave their lives saving others never wondered if the victims paid their fire dept bill.

the homeowner, gene cranick, pleaded with them to help and they let his 3 dogs and cat burn alive because of $75.

my electric and cable let me slip for months before they turn the power/cable off. and no cat or dog has ever died due to lack of cable/power.

sadly, this is a libertarian wet dream come true. i love libertarianism on paper, but it doesn't work quite so well in the real world.

do you say that because a failed sportscaster left wing making his living criticizing the right wing said so? do you REALLY think any libertarian has dreams of peoples homes in flames and having a fire dept just sit there and watch? maybe if we didn't give other nations money to in turn by weapons from us, his house wouldn't of burned. thats my wet dream come true.

and call me a bastard, but these animals were dumb. pure.inbred.dumb. a dog, with supersonic hearing, and ultra sensitive smell, cant escape a burning building?apparently the owners were dumb enough to burn trash on their property and not think surroundings can catch on fire too. but if i see my house on fire and i know my animals are in there, i would be in there my damn self. those poor animals were probably waiting at the door for someone to just open it and let them out.

tennessee is also the lowest (or top 3) tax burden state. and if you forget a responsibility like paying this tax, thats on you. but damn at least he gets a new house out of the deal. he probably set the fuckin house on fire himself, and let the animals die. dont say no way either cause i know some folks in tn that have done this very thing. maybe not at once, but still.

wtf are you talking about? his insurance won't even cover this. he does not get a new house, and his three dogs burnt alive, as well as his cat.

and yes, this is a libertarian wet dream. this atrocity never would have occurred in a more socialist leaning society. the south fulton fd only covered non-incorporated rural areas for a fee. guess what? if you don't pay the fee, they sit idly by and watch as your dogs burn alive. fucking heartless bullshit.

this man pleaded for them to help. i'm sure he would have paid back the $75 and then some if it meant his dogs did not perish, not to mention his home.

if i were there fighting the fire, i would have bucked any orders and done whatever i could for my fellow citizen. i would have whipped out my credit card and paid the $75 for him. i guess you take a more cold-hearted view and say let the dogs burn. quite the statement on your character.

It used to be First do no harm, now it is First do nothing, or First do credit check.
what if the man had paid the fee and the city somehow lost the paperwork?

would the fd, without that knowledge, still have let his house and 3 dogs burn to the ground?

mistakes happen.

gotta side with u buck

and to blazin, not sure about your pets( probably dont have any) but i dont think my pets know how to open doors. Also my pets are crated sometimes.
And no i dont think some guy in the government was thinking about peoples houses burning. i think he was thinking, lets make some more money, if they dont pay then thats their problem.

o yea and hell no insurance wont cover this. Thats ridiculous, insurance hardly pays for shit, their job is to find loop holes so they dont have to pay. I had a cyst surgery and needed a nurse to come daily to pack the open wound. About 2 months later the insurance said they wont pay for it anymore, and i was left with a hole about the size of a dime open. I have never needed my insurance before this medically.

sorry, dude.

i was more preaching to that heartless bastard blazin.

my bad.
look man, my opinion is my opinion. as is yours. but what warrants this personal attack? apparently your view on how things work is deeply construed.

how much of your damn house has to be on fire before you realize "hey my house is on fire better go get the animals out"? to put things in perspective for you, HE WAS BURNING HIS FUCKING TRASH. which either means 1. they dont have trash services. or 2. (surprisingly?) he forgot to pay that tax also. when you live in the city you pay more taxes because there is more people and you have more services to provide. if you live outside of those limits (country) you pay less for services or dont pay for any services at all. this is country life. trust me im from alabama damnit. i guess our iq down thurr is i little higher cause we have something called volunteer fire departments. ironic right? volunteer. i like how someone commented that that county is like haiti with cable. which is pretty fuckin true probably.

and i like how this keith guy blames ONE counties polices on a WHOLE movement. "OH SHIT THEY GOT REPUBLICANS RUNNING THE PLACE. NOW IM GONNA MAKE A WHOLE BUNCH OF GENERALIZATIONS BECAUSE THE TEA PARTY ALSO HAS REPUBLICANS" cmon man stop letting tv dictate your thoughts. if you feel so strongly go run for mayor down there.

yes its pretty harsh. its country life. he knew the risks. he knew if he didn't pay it he would risk not getting a fire put out. did you watch the video? he says insurance is covering him. in his own words "day right on the ball"

here's a warning folks: if you want life easier, live in the city limits. and dont burn trash close to your house. and how you gonna blame the fd when he could've easily opened a door and let the animals out? you dont blame his stupidity, you automatically place blame on politics? what if there was a major fire in the city and 6 people die because one engine is in bum fuck egypt because some stupid fuck was burning trash and caught his house on fire? what would you say? "sorry guys, i know your taxes specifically pay for fire protection, but we had to go save a guys house that forgot to pay his share."

its amazing how common sense works sometimes. it takes money for services to be provided. if you live outside of the service field you have to pay it yourself.

watch the videos. he says himself that his insurance is covering him. and i know pets cant open doors, but humans sure can. and thats all he had to do. it's not as much "lets make some money" as much as it is "lets charge people for this service"

FACT: he was burning trash
FACT: a shed caught fire first and sheds are generally close to your house.
FACT: when a building catches fire, other nearby buildings run the same risk.
FACT: people in unincorporated areas pay less in taxes. they have less in revenue which is why most depend on volunteer departments.
FACT: they could've put the fire out, but when the first house that went up in flames, that should've been a sign then to SET UP A VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT.
FACT: this is the very reason some people live in the country. THEY PAY LESS IN TAXES.

to sum everything up: hate the player, dont hate the game.

It's always interesting how news like this always ferrets out the sociopaths.

I've always found the modern conservative ethos to be disgusting because it leaves no bonds in community other than naked self-interest. People must be punished!!!

and people wonder why our country has gone to shit.
