So Snickers creates more jobs than steak and Red Bull creates more jobs than milk? I don't think you've thought this thru. What I do think is you've made a kneejerk reaction to overhauling a program that is in severe need of overhaul.

What you want is to do away with the nutrition program and send them a check to spend as they wish. You're against restrictions and it's a stimulus program, right? I'd prefer to focus on nutrition in a nutrition program.

actually, the record shows obama has a much better record of job creation than bush, which is not difficult as bush had a record of basically no net job creation after 8 years in office.

The unemployment rate has dropped because in Obomber's economy, hundreds of thousands of more people have given up looking for work; thus decreasing the unemployment rate. Is a citation needed? Probably not, but humor me anyway.

It would kind of kill the economic benefit of providing such a program. I wouldn't have a problem with that if there was an increase in funding so people could actually afford healthier foods. Preservative filled foods tend to be cheaper and last longer. I would worry about long term shortages in the supply chain of those staple foods similar to the ussr in the 80's. The ability of people to have choice helps keep the cost low.

Is a store going to miss out on a sale or ring it up as eggs,milk or cheese like they do with booze? How much will it cost to enforce such a ban?

$1 spent is $1 spent. Making healthier meals means lower healthcare costs. A bag of flour will last longer than a bag of Cheetos. You can't just "ring booze up as eggs" under WIC, right now there are ways to manipulate that under SNAP. Wouldn't it be nice to stop that?
 
when i see people using food stamps at the store, it generally falls into two categories, almost without fail:

-mexicans and hispanics buying milk, eggs, bananas, potatoes, and vegetables with a balance left on their card

-white trash buying starburst, cheetoes, and red bull with no balance left on their card and two weeks left until they get re-upped

whenever i see the latter, i always look at the cashier and say "i hope that bag of cheetoes can last them until the 3rd of next month".

Except when everyone is buying milk and there is a certain amount produced the price increases as there is less of it. If you limit what can be bought you increase the price even further. What difference does it make if they make unhealthy food from scratch or buy it premade?

What happens when the people that work for the food companies are laid off?

i think my own unique experience of seeing this owes a lot to upbringing of the parties i witness.

a middle aged hispanic lady who probably grew up in mexico or some other poorer, central american nation with strong gender roles is gonna be more likely to do actual cooking with staple items.

some 22 year old piece of shit street life white trash is gonna be more inclined to try to mimic the unhealthy, sugar laden cereals and juice drinks they grew up on. same reason why they don't allow backpacks in the store anymore and every 6-pack of lemon lime soda has been reduced to a 5-pack or 4-pack.

would it kill these stupid fucking punks to pick up some bread, peanut butter, ramen, potatoes, eggs, and butter at the beginning of the month?*
