How much distance from the bottom of the grow site do you put the return pipe? (that goes back to reservoir)

That last inch or so of water is easily taken up with a wet vac.

instead of bulkheads, i used shower drains. same/same basically. but local ACE has them and it even includes the metal grate to keep out wayward hydroton, etc.Definitely the most optimal. I regret not including this in my design originally. Nice
