In soil plants like a good wet/dry cycle...so don't water everyday.

When growing in soil I would feed,water,water,feed.

But let the plants tell you what they want.

Might be a good idea to get a TDS or EC meter as well as a good pH meter/pen or pH drops test kit.

pH plain water between 6.0 and 6.5.When you mix up your nutes,after mixing pH nute solution between 6.0 and 6.5

Add the Big Bloom and mix,then add the Grow big and mix,then pH between 6.0 and 6.5

Water/feed very very slowly so the water has time to react to the soil and rootzone.Collect the first little bit of runoff and test the pH of the runoff.

If the runoff pH is higher than the pH of what you're putting in you need to flush with either plain water pH'd between 6.0 and 6.5 or a 1/4 strength nute solution pH'd between 6.0 and 6.5 to correct it.

Same thing if your runoff pH comes out lower than what you're putting in.

So...if you water/feed at pH 6.5 and runoff comes out higher or lower,correct it by flushing with correct pH water/nute solution.

No. There is not a technique for this, at least not one that you'd want to use. Most plants will grow 2-3x in size during flowering. Indicas tend to be on the lower end and sativas on the higher end of that range. So plan accordingly.

If you want your plants to be 4 ft tall flip to flowering when the plant is between 16" - 24". I personally wouldn't do any trimming or topping after you flip.

That is a lot of unnecessary work. One of the big advantages of soil over hydro is that it acts as a nice buffer between the roots and your nutrient solution. I have literally never tested my ph of the water, soil or runoff. If you have problems in soil, your ph is the absolute last place to look.

Are you saying to ph the water first, then add your nutes and then finally ph it again? If so, that is even more unnecessary than checking your ph in the first place.

To OP: If you really feel the need to ph your water and check the runoff, get some strips and save your money. You dont need it to be super accurate. anything in the ballpark will be ok for soil. Also, once you have a general idea of the ph of your tap water and how your nutes change it you wont need to keep measuring it.


A TDS meter could be useful and those are much cheaper so get one of those. Will provide you with much more useful information for your soil grow than ph values.

Stanley,while quality soils like FFOF do come ammended with dolomite lime (a pH buffer and source of Ca/Mg) it is always best to err on the safe side and pH your plain water,and pH your nute solution.

No I was not saying to pH the water and then mix nutes and then pH again.

I was saying that when giving only plain water that you should pH between the correct levels for soil which is between 6.0 and 6.5

I was also saying when making your nute solution to add the nutes to the water,then pH the nute solution to the correct.pH levels for soil between 6.0 and 6.5
