Feral hemp

whats up all? im dedicating my day off to finding a wild hemp plant. i have been told by three family members that its terrible to smoke, but it makes awesome cannabutter if you let it flower until right before the first freeze. today might be my last chance. i live in southern indiana where hemp still grows, supposedly. my questions: what does a hemp plant look like this late in the season? purple from cold temps (38 degree low) ? will it still have its fan leaves? is it true these plants exist mainly near railroad tracks? if theres any ol hippies out there that know about this PLEASE help, this could be my last chance this year.

i am a skilled horticulturalist, i am aware of the levels of THC in hemp. i dont need the advice "just go get some real weed". i have an eighth of northern lights ill be bringing with me. i want good butter and want to know if my family is bsing me.

what makes you think the butter will be better than butter made with quality buds?

im positive it won't be. do you have any information that pertains to feral hemp? do you know if it dies on first frost?

You're a little late for those kind of plants. In the midwest the peak time for ditch weed harvest is late Sept / Early Oct. I used to find DW in Iowa in the mid 60s. Most of the time I was early or late. When it's too late the plant leaves and buds will be like dried leaves, crunchy and will turn to dust. If you find it early enough it will have buds and stink kinda like good weed and it will be full of seeds. Chop the whole plant and hang to dry (avoid freezing) for about a week. Then trim the buds like you normally would and try to further dry/cure and use the trim as you normally would for butter and then when the buds are near dry you can smoke them (yuck) or throw them in with the trim to make butter. We used to smoke the shit since we couldn't find gold in IA very often in the mid 60s. Damn, it was 20 bucks for a lid of A-gold. But we did find some ditch shit we could get high on although it took big fucking fattys to get a buz. Look for patches of plants together about 6 feet high. Easy to spot this time of year as they look like xmas trees.

I've always heard the levels of THC in hemp are laughable, like under 1%....So why would you seek out that plant to make your butter out of. I know you already said "I am aware of the THC levels"...But why would you use it if you are aware of that. Does hemp contain other valuable cannabinoids like THCV? Just wondering..I always heard that hemp is literally only good for fiber or industrial use, and you would need to smoke around a pound of it to catch a buzz.

Back in the 70s I remember seeking ditch weed in the farm fields and ditches west of Madison Wisconsin. Moldy is spot on from what I remember. I remember we were exited to find some with some purple coloring on the leaves. We dried and smoked that stuff and it was awful. Tasted like really harsh hay and I don't remember any buzz whatsoever. We knew where there were hundreds of plants but after the one time, we didn't bother with it.

We only had one harvest that was half way "decent". We picked at prime time (didn't know it at the time) and tried to smoke it but it wasn't cured. I threw the plants up above the garage in a crawl space and forgot about them for a week or so. I remembered they were there and went up and got a branch and stripped it with seeds and all. It was still "damp" but smokable so I rolled one and smoked it. It worked! But it wasn't even close to good weed as you had to smoke a couple of fattys but the effect was there. So I even accidently cured it on the stalks and didn't know what I was doing at the time. The leaves were between indica and sativa, mid sized but leaning to thin shaped leaves. I've seen short hemp plants too with wider leaves but didn't get a chance to smoke it as it was froze by the weather.

Ha, we started selling the crap for 10 bucks a teaspoon and had a line of cars waiting to buy the crap. hahaha

thanks everybody for your input! i walked the tracks for about 3 hours yesterday. didnt find one single "hemp" plant. however i did come across somebody's personal garden. they had already harvested their indicas it appears because there were wide fan leaves in a pile. i didnt bring my gun so i didnt venture too far, but i found 9 sativa looking plants with about a week of flowering left. our cold indiana weather has turned the tops of the colas bright purple on a few. others were still lime green. i took the liberty of "lollipopping" a few of each pheno, i would say i gathered about an ounce. im thinkin the ones that turned bright purple are purple haze, but with 300+ genotypes, i cant be too sure. the two have very distinct smells, the purple stuff is so incredibly piney, the green stuff is SUPER skunky. i think i did good. )

why did you touch someones plants ? they will shit themselves when they come back and someones messed with the plants .

if you saw these plants you would understand why i took a few scraggly branches from the bottom. i would guess they were started indoors in maybe febuary or march. my guess is they lstd and bushed them out then transplanted here in early summer. theres no way they grew like that in one season without a ton of tlc. i took enough to last me a few months, and they'll never know. when i said lollipop i meant to imply i took lower branches and left the main colas alone. i was scared shitless and just waiting for a crossbow bolt to hit me(leaves of grass reference). if you found my massive plants and only took one ounce and didnt tell anyone where my shit was growin...id shake your damn hand. but yea thanks for the positive energy there folks.

so with that being said if i were to find you laying there naked i could take your scraggly little left nut and its ok because you wont miss it. there are 3 things you dont mess with 1) a mans woman 2) his truck 3) his plants you sir are a parasite
