I have used 70/30 cocoa and perlite so far. The cocoa holds enough water that once a day for 2 minutes soaks the pot in my drip system that drains to the res.

Is this good enough?

I am just wondering if using something that drained better and allowed me to water maybe 5 times per day would allow the plants better nutrient uptake.

Maybe if I reversed the 70/30 to perlite / cocoa.........

Probably not what you're looking for, but my favorite medium is no medium.

Stinkbuds suspension method in aero, this makes cleanup so much easier.

i really like starting in rockwool cubes and then surrounding with hyrdoclay. it's almost impossible to over water with rockwool (although it IS possible) because it holds 18% air at all times as long as it's not submerged in water. the hydroclay is reusable with some work as well.

50/50 mix of perlite and Promix for me. Just add nutes. The easiest and cheapest way I've ever gotten 2 lb per 1k light.

Hydroclay? You mean the little chunks of rockwool?
no, hydroclay (AKA expanded clay pellets) are just what they sound like, little balls of clay that drain well, but also hold some moisture. They are a very good medium because they drain so quickly and allow plenty of air into the root system

Hydroton. The only way to go for me. I've even started going straight into the buckets out of my clone machine. The root mass after harvest is unbelievable. Never had root rot one single time using hydroton (used to be called hydrocorn, what ever happened to that name).

Just hate washing that stuff. I use 3 big bags a turn.
