I had never heard of him until my daughters were in late middle school and early high school, unbeknownst to me he was already dead. The girls and their friends discovered him on PBS reruns and You-tubes, as with the custom of young girls they liked his campy character and he became a fad to them. Thus, in passing Dad style peripheral awareness I was aware of him; flash forward to their college years and somehow I became aware of his death but thought it contemporary. During a phone call I informed them of his death, silence and then giggling, "ah yeah Dad, we heard too, thanks". And until today I thought it was around the time I informed them. Duh
