Lol I just read through that link and honestly couldn't help but laugh.

FYI Corey this isn't directed at you, I just quoted your post because of the link.

The whole page reads like total marketing BS. "hey check out our new product (which is actually just our rebranded previously failed autoflowers that won't autoflower)", " here is a whole list of reasons why photo periods are better then autoflowers(they gave an actual list)", " the offspring will develop “special attributes” from both parents (yeah its called phenotypes and has nothing to do with them being "fast flowering") They go on to say those special attributes MIGHT include faster flowing times(or other things that aren't faster flowering times).

So just like any other seeds you are going to have to pheno hunt plants that actually have the characteristics that you want. You may or may not ever find a plant that finishes in the fast time frame they CLAIM (not to be a spoiler, but most of the plants won't). You might also get some nice ruderalis genetics that decide to pop through and turn your grow into mids.

People really need to get over this whole fast flowering times thing. The absolute best strains and plants I've ever smoked where not harvested in 8-9 weeks. Everyone always trying to find the fastest flowering times makes them completely overlook all the much better cannabis out there that takes longer. People are constantly trying to cut down plants that need another month because the "breeder"( IE: pollen chucker) claims it will be done in 8 weeks when it absolutely needs 11-12. Most people will never grow a 14-16 week sativa and understand how fantastic they can be even though they take longer. All the real keeper plants I've had over the years took a solid 10-12 weeks to finish, and people couldn't get enough of them when they were done!

Don't you ever enjoy playing the longshot? Almost all of us know about snake oil advertising. I mean we are into drugs, right? Anyway I'll occasionally risk some on hype and once in awhile (very very rarely mind you) I'll get something that knocks it outta the park. I think it's why I keep gambling on dumb shit (and I don't mean just pot ). Otherwise life seems to succumb to ennui.

Or is it I'm really high on a sativa leaner and you chose an indica this am??

So it’s a photo indica/sativa x Auto (sativa/indica x ruderalis)? With F1 hybrid vigor?

isnt (sativa/indica x ruderalis) an F1 anyway

Shit I don't even know what I"m smoking on actually. Its some organic outdoor a buddy grew, but no clue what strain I assume some hybrid.

I wasn't trying to be a downer, I honestly thought the whole thing was really funny. I've been watching the marketing for years, and all the trends and hype to sell seeds change over time. I'm just encouraging people to stop focusing on the harvest times and pay more attention to the rest of the plant. I just feel like harvest times should be the last thing you consider when deciding what plants to grow not the first thing that people(esspecially new growers) look at.

I get lots of opportunity to try new hype stuff between my job at the farm and the other grower friends I have here in Oregon. At the farm we've got 50+ strains mothered, and have a 200 plant pheno hunt going on like 5 more strains. The boss pheno hunts considering flavor/smell is = with effects/potency in value, then come yields, bag appeal and length of flower time. Thats also why we grow some of the best cannabis in the area.

Some of the new hype strains are great......... lots of them are just OKAY and seem very similar and kinda meh. The stuff that is really great, usually has something that stands out about its effects or the taste/smell, not how much faster it "finished".

Edited: FYI @curious2garden I am all about growing from regular seeds and pheno hunting plants that will perform the best in YOUR specific garden, which is always kind of a long shot isn't it :).

I was teasing you TC :D I was so high I was laughing my ass off and thinking about all the snake oil seeds I'd bought over the decades for their word appeal. In this endeavor we are flying by the seat of our pants but soon between the Universities and Agribusinesses we'll have the science :D

I see no reason why a determined breeder should be unable to develop a strain that finishes quicker. But why would you? Sure more crops per year could mean more yield. But then we also know that yield increases linearly with light amount (with constant grow time). Short cycle would also mean less yield. On the other hand you have to make more clones, more training and generally handling plants. Not much point for commercial reasons. And for doing some growing at home I prefer other characteristics than fast finish.

I appreciate fast finishers, don't get me wrong. What I don't understand is their are plenty of true 9 week finishers, some 8. Once they are a clone if you keep them and rerun them, the clones usually are a week faster at flower finish than the seed version. So if you can buy that already, where does the auto that does not auto fit in. It's light schedule dependent like a female photo so I see zero practical application still.

Yea this does not seem to fit the bill. Just that it is not unreasonable to make something 6 weeks for a true finish. Just takes dedication.

No such thing as a fast version. It's just marketing bs. Cannabis needs a minimum of 8 weeks to flower. And considering that most autos need even longer than 8 the concept of making faster flowering photo periods by breeding them with autos is downright stupid.
I'm not sure about that, some fast versions can save like 1-2 weeks. They of course still need time, they kinda give less yield too
