Fans? Needed?

So I have a 2 day old lil seedling. Havent had a fan on it, just a small CFL light, mixing light sources at the moment to get some more lumens until I can get some more lights and proper supplies. But im curious as to if a fan is even needed? I keep reading about fans, but do they have a specific purpose for the veg cycle?

Prevent damping off diseases?? Gotta drop it more newb status for me lol. literally 3rd day seedling. Still no idea quite what im doing. Just asking questions as they come to mind. but I have a small house fan blowing on low towards the seedling. under about 5 lights now. using what I got until I get real grow lights. so its like 3 different light types.... lol.

that thread is agood one.

i have never actually hooked up my fan for the direct use of damping of deseases, but i do use it, in fact, quite a lot. sometimes ill even let it be a hurricane in there for a bit (but not too long). the reason i use fans? stronger stems to support bigger buds later, and heat dissipation since my house gets quite hot and i have no AC
