Now then
you can get a box to fit the fan into which quitens it down
or get a fan speed controller and slow it down a bit and also
you can get insulated ducting which also helps.
you can also hang your fan using bungie cord to stop vibration noise.
Take it easy man and good luck

there are mufflers available. I had a 4" hydro farm inline that was too loud and i got a vortex instead. much quieter.

Also you might want to look into changing out your fan to one of the panasonic whipser inline units. They all have sonne raitings so you can compare them to what you have, they are very quiet.

some ideas are to look into sound deadnig material used in cars...this should get you started: http://www.b-quiet.com/?googleads also ppl like to suspend their fans using bungies to help keep the sound from transfering to the box. One thing that helped me figure out what the problem was being caused by was I used my DBA meter (I bought from radio shack to tune my home theater system, for like 50 something like this: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103668 ) to pinpoint the issue and test out various solutions (you could always buy and return it if you didnt want to keep it). .just some ideas for you to get started.

i noticed that the noise isn't coming from the motor but the blades when rotating . it sounds like a vacuum cleaner !! if i put the fan in an insulated box and use 6" insulated ducting for my 4" fan and use a speed controller do you guys think that i can make it quite ??

I want it to be super stealth for my cab is in the hallway and i don't want it to be much noisier than a computer ..
