fan on 24/7?

in my veg room the light is on 18 hrs the fan is on 19hrs in my flower room the fan intake/.xhaust+oscilating fan r all left on 24/7 i have found i have to do this to keep the night time humidity at bay. in the veg room the humidity does not go up as much at night so i leave the fan of to try and encourage a little bit of humidity as the plants seem to enjoy it.

wow im pretty new to all this compute stuff just a grower i didnt understand that post above and im sorry if i am replying to something that wasnt ment for me i seen the abbreviation rh i guess this is relative humidity if u r asking about mine it sits at around 45-50% through the day and can climb as high as 60% at night as i live in a very cold place my biggest problem is keeping nightime temp up even with a heater about the best we can do when it gets real cold is make sure the nutrients stay heated but this can also add greatly to nightime humidity problem.

ok yes it was the' i was talking to!!! My bad on not quoting it tho! The rh. Seems ok... Are we getting any mold on the walls or soil tops???
$$$ thoughts a little heater for those cold nights wally mart 20. Or a cheapy de'humidifier? Same wonder store!

lol no no mold or nuthin bro i have no problems except computing and temp of a night i have been doing this many many years and im afraid to say a little heater from walmart will not suffice my growing room as we are not talkin a little room if ya smell what im cookin, but thanks for the reply mate much appreciated.

well, this kind of went off topic didn't it? sorry to have gotten off on so many different subjects. so, no you don't need to have your fan on all the time. if there is some secondary reason you need it on then, go for it. any benefit to stem strengthening would easily be met during the 24, 18, or 16 hours the fan was on during your light cycle.

Why give bad advice? You've had ample opportunity to educate yourself on the subject by now. You have multiple experienced growers some kindly (others not so kindly) trying to give you a clue. Please don't let your pride get in the way of learning something. Or at least step aside and let people who know what they are about help people out.

A constant supply of fresh air is important to the plant. Stem strengthening is a nice by-product of using fans, but a steady supply of fresh air containing CO2 is the primary reason. In an enclosed area the miniscule amount of CO2 in the air is quickly depleted necessitating the need for a constant supply of fresh air. Any marijuana growing book will tell you that. Hell! any indoor gardening book will tell you that!

always meant to get back to this little turd herder. here's one of 6 grown with with fans only on while the lights are on. as i mentioned, as long as you have some sort of fresh air exchange, co2 isn't necessary. this plant had 7 or 8 ounces on it's own when harvested. i only grow for myself, so i don't need too much. also wanted to wish you a "happy birthday" greenboy!! so, how does it feel to be 18??? wishing you many more.....

This is my way of thinking as well. Plants dont hibernate during darkness, It's like saying people dont breathe while sleeping.:weed:

i wonder when photosynthesis takes place??? oh yeah, during daylight hours. and our breathing is greatly slowed during sleep. i too believe that fans are good and necessary, when your lights are on. unless of course, you have a plant packed grow area or a confined area. then, it would be a good idea. i use a spare bedroom with 6 plants in 5 gallon buckets and they do great. but, i have fresh air access so it works for me. if it doesn't work for you.... and stem strengthening is accomplished during lights on. it's ludicrous to think that a plant inside is going to need tree trunks to hold up it's buds. sides, most grows need to prop their plants up with stakes anyways, once the buds get big. i've done both, saw no difference...

THe don't "hibernate", but they do use A LOT less CO2 in the dark.

Think about it this way. When you are running as fast as you can for a long period of time, you are going to need a lot of air to breathe. But while you're sleeping, you don't need near the same amount.

Same thing with the plants. While the lights are on, the plants are "running". WHile the lights are off, they are "sleeping". They need lots of CO2 in the day, and just enough at night.

i don't think you'd be harming plants by leaving fans on all the time. as long as you don't have a hurricane on em, they'd be fine. i've seen plants subjected to too strong of airflow. it can cause scarification to the main stalk, which can be an open door for pests/disease. you can tell by what looks to be a thin layer of skin-like material. it's similar to what your skin looks like after a sunburn. it's just personal preference. if you look at the pic i posted you can see that my stalk is plenty thick.

The only reason I run my fans 24hrs is because of humidity and odor issues. If I turn off my fan at night while my plants are like 4-5 weeks into flower, the humidity gets up to like 60-80%. Plus, if the air is not being pushed through a carbon filter all the time, my entire house and neighborhood stinks. Even if its just for like an hour or two.
