hi all have any of you tried blowing fan through the carbon filter to quieten the wind rush

yeah it reduces it a bit. I ended up pulling air through filter and made a silencer for the outlet. noise was bugger all once id done that

3ft of 10"pvc pipe with the ends reduced to 6" to match ducting. inside it I lined with wall insulation and a 6" roll of chicken wire down the centre to keep things in place

Nice^ ! Yea you can make one super cheap out of pvc and line it with the 1" thick egg carton shaped foam and glue in in place. Pretty much copy the design of a duct muffler out on the market.
I'm using duct mufflers on all of my fans. Pulling air through the filter and blowing out through the muffler. I think I'm also going to build some small boxes around the fans themselves out of the thick foil lined styrofoam board from lowes.

beezcheeze how well do the store bought mufflers work?
my last setup I had good chunky rubber the fan was mounted to and encased with wall insulation as well although a lined box would probly work better.

My muffler works great. Its a ventech 4" muffler.
