Fan leaves in flowering

My plants are about 5 weeks into flowering and a lot of the fan leaves are turning completely yellow and then dying. this only on the lower ones and im thinking it is because they are not getting enough light. Is this natural for the flowering stage?????

they could need a little nitrogen. mine do this also. i've tried everything and it still won't stop.

I know some will disagree with me, but at 5 weeks, I would simply clip those leaves. Your already halfway there, and you dont need the extra baggage.
Peace

Light is your biggest problem with the lower leaves dying off. Normally I trim them off as soon as they start to yellow. I was able to stop it in an expeirment i tried with lights runing vertically(at a 30 degree angle like this / ) next to the plants(on four sides surrounding the plant), but the quality and yeild weren't worth the extra cost and heat of the lights.

I should have added that the top was finishing well before the bottom and it just seemed counter productive to keep her flowering for those lower buds to finish(3-4 weeks if my memory serves me correctly).

i try not to clip my leaves. i let the plant use as much nutes out of the leaf as possible.

I understand where you're coming from. I have all of my "babies" at such a close space to each other in the flowing rooms that if helps me with air flow if I keep the bottoms trimmed.

Now you have got me thinking that I might be better off leaving them die off on their own. I have new veggers going in next week and I'll give it a try. Old habbits die hard. I think that I just always thought to cut them off for no other reson than "i always cut them off". My harvests are fairly uniform so I will let you know what happens. Comparison of 2 10x10x8 rooms. Same lights, same ventilation, same CO2 supply, same mother stock. The only varible will be to trim or not to trim. I'm excited about playing the role of scientist for 9 weeks.

Make sure you dont have water standing somewhere..Soil or dro?
I kept having this problem and found that my catch pan on my pots werent draining properly ( roots poking through the bottom of my holes and sitting in the catch pan water) ..Nothing that my dewalt couldnt fix.;)
Hope you figure it out
'good luck peace

I can help you a little bit. If your plant is ^ any branches below the bottom of the carrot won't get light and will yellow. Its those that you want to remove.

I probably should just keep my mouth shut at this point, this statement will stir up lots of fuss. You might as well trim those bottom leaves off, they tend to be more of a drain on the plant at the stage they are in. I am a firm believer in trimming, most of your nuteriants come from the roots and the younger leaves are more active with the light than the older. When you trim off the older leaves you will accelerate the growth of the younger and you have the root system already in place to handle the accelerated growth of the leaves. The roots will keep pumping the food to the older leaves as long as they are there. You can always try this on one plant and keep a close watch and see the difference between trimming and not trimming.
