Turns out you can't delete a facebook account? Only deactivate it...I find that odd

I'd had an account for a while, but facebook has become to seem a bit too narcissistic to me. Millions of people logging onto a virtual reality world daily, to inform their hundreds of "friends" about their daily activities and such...who the hell even has over 50 friends in reality? lol

IDK, it just dawned on me...as I was reading the daily "newsfeed" that it all seemed really fake to me. I log onto an online "social networking group" and to the contrary, feel quite antisocial with all these pictures and names of people i've really never even talked to, nor am I using facebook to stay in touch with

so in an effort to restore my once-booming REAL social life, i've ditched the not-so-social virtual network...cuz the truth is my actual social life will probably only improve lol

my 2 cents anyway

It's deleted after 14 days of inactivity. They want you to feel the withdrawal, so you'll log back in and reactivate.

I beg to differ man, I mean, I am now living on the other side of the world from my original berth place, so I use facebook quite a bit, as it is prett much the best way of contacting and talking with my oldschool friends you know? It deffinately doesn't take away from my physical social life, and I'm actually quite greatful for it, there will always be bullshit that goes with it, but you just look past that, and people who have hundreds and hundreds of friends are probably just little kids trying to one up each other.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents, each to their own right?

I don't doubt there are people who use it for good reasons, but on the whole i see it as a waste of time and i read a lot of status updates and think do you have a single friend who gives two damns, same with the new location service, no one cares whatsoever that you have just been in cafe nero broad street or such rubbish. Don't even get me started on the like pages, who would voluntarily search facebook for waitrose and like the page, as well as 36 others pages today. But remember. I would delete it but it does offer me some amount of usefulness, such as linking contact details, photo's and dates of birth with my phones callendar, that was useful, couldn't be bothered to do it myself, and for retaining contact info for people i don't talk to, but would still like to be able to if i decide. Other than that i see little point. When it started out, and it was for Uni groups to organise their socials and such, that was great, and then it went hyper-commercial...

Agreed here...RIU is my social network lol

FB/MS is just another way for someone with a little hacking skill to get your personal information and steal your identity...or stalk you. Then again, I'm an "off the grid" kinda guy lol.

NO, it is NOT EVER deleted!!! It is just "deactivated"...I deleted all of my pictures and info before deactivating Facebook account. I did it once before only to realize that they deleted nothing at all.
I'm with budsmoker. Too much bs...and to boot, some Fb member is a scammer and somebody else downloaded Freeze.com onto my computer without me knowing. There's no security or privacy at Facebook.
