Fabric pot vs Plastic vs ??? Sizes?

This is amazing advice, ty.

I tried this, and it made a HUGE difference. Jury's out on whether I'll get my act together and keep them hydrated tho. One thing that also worked for me was packing them so that they were higher at the edge of the pot than at the center (like a u shape).

I'm going to try the regular promix next time instead of the high porosity to see if that will keep them watered longer as well. Tbh, I've never tried adding a surfactant to the water because I heard promix comes with one and unless you are reusing the soil it doesn't matter much. I might try it out but I think wetting the soil and packing it in is enough.
thinking of getting these. just having the wicking pad I think would help a ton with water escaping from the top of the pot through evaporation
the self watering part would be a huge plus! but then again its one more thing I have to buy and maintain.

Have any of you guys ever re-used your fabric pots? An old grower buddy was moving recently and gave me most of his equipment for free including a bunch of used 5, 7, and 10g ones

That's neat. I like the idea of automation but a friend has had too many floods for me to try right now. I also like what others are doing with hydroton balls, not just for evaporation, but so the soil isn't disturbed when watering. Edit: just to stress how much I hate floating perlite.

You could easily rig up a watering system with something like that. My dosimeter cost about $20 in parts and dispenses a variable amount of liquid nutes when a button is pressed. I'd like to do something like that with watering too. Just press a button and 500mL is added, not 100% automated but energy saving.
