F3 Valley Ice. (Matanuska x SFV OG)

Week 2 of 12/12
Gave them all a good flush today then top dressed with 4-4-4 Jobes Pellets. Everything is looking good. Three of the plants are hungry for N, so I gave them a tsp of blood meal.
All 4 Amnesia Haze seedlings turned out to be males. I am keeping the best one and pollinating a branch on two of the Valley Ice plants. Curious to see what comes from that cross.

Lots of stuff happening in the veg tent. I will make an update on that some other time.

Growing outdoors comes with different challenges, but I would say its just as difficult/easy as growing indoors. Genetics is super important when growing outdoors. Indoors you can get away with growing a mediocre plant, but outdoors the elements, pests, etc. will ravage a weak plant.

The MTF really is a hardy strain, considering the fact that it's finishing strong in the northern latitude. :mrgreen:

i allway wanted to spring on the MTF all i've heard has been postive!

Most of the plants were starving for N in week 2. Some of the fan leaves yellowed a bit. Looks like the top dressing I gave them last week is finally starting to break down.
Im surprised by how quickly the nutrients are being used up.
On the next run, im planing on top dressing the soil every week after the flip. I hate seeing yellow leaves on my plants. Lol

Amnesia Haze male. Chunky hollow stem. The flowers are just starting to develop. I will most likely have to store the pollen and use it on the next run of clones.

Veg tent is doing ok. Only the Malawi Gold is hating the quart containers. At this point, im just keeping them alive and not letting them grow. LOL

Mothers are overgrown. They need pruning again. I have clones in the seedling dome that are rooted. So im maxed out on space at the moment. Freaking hilarious...

For sure. Winters are grey and wet over here. Lack of sunlight can be a little depressing. It really breaks people around Feb. March is like the hallelujah month when the sun returns. LOL

Im not happy with my soil mix. Once it dries out, water doesn't penetrate top soil very well. The water runs down the sides and straight into the water tray. Its a little annoying. For my next run, im going to mix in 20% sand and more perlite.

Everything else seems to be on point. Ive also been thinking about setting up a drip irrigation. Not a lot of space to work with, so I will keep the 5gl water bucket outside of the tent. Manually turn on the water pump every 3 days.

Lol I know that feeling grey and dark for months mind you in summer this far north it doesn't get dark for long it could be worse Finland and places like that get it worse

I hear you with grey,cold and depressing I go through it especially after holidays. It's because I've found this place been manageable.
Yea alot of great growers use strait promix with added perlite. Then topdress with triple 4, liquid seaweed every couple weeks. As you know depends on plant plus you know your strains so even better. Gotta fire my closet have room for three but two more likely. Just need to figure out this new spiderfarmer exhaust with their control, powers exhaust and temp and humidity.

Its not in full bloom. It has been in the same small container since Sept 19. Im not sure why its doing whats its doing.

Its rumored that the original Alaskan Thunderfuck was crossed with a ruderalis. The MTF supposedly has ATF in it. The ruderalis gene present in this male makes me feel optimistic that im running an authentic version of the MTF.

Which specific trait are you talking about? I’m growing some MTF BX4 from AK Bean Brains, and have been trying to do as much reading about the mtf/atf as possible. Can you elaborate a little bit here please?

edit - Did you mean to say that your male is autoflowering? Sorry, I read it again after the coffee started kicking in.

Im still not sure if it is auto flowering. Ive pruned it back 2 times. Technically if it was an auto flower, I wouldn't have been able to reverse it into vegetative state. Its in vegetative state but its still producing flowers. Which suggests there is a ruderalis gene in the plant.
I think @conor c is suggesting that maybe it needs more hours of light in order to reverse further into vegetative state. Makes sense considering that Alaska has longer days in the summer.

The information ive gathered about ATF is that it has some ruderalis in it. MTF has some ATF in it. This is the information ive gathered. Let me know what you find.

That's what I was told about mtf/ATF that it had some ruderalis in it's background but been worked as a fast finishing photo strain like kc45 is that's Brazilian x siberian ruderalis but it's a photo strain and it ain't a F1 either so aye might be what they call a semi auto or an early
 
Week 4 of 12/12
Some fan leaves have died back. I pruned off some of the lower larf. Nugs are starting to swell. New growth is dark green and plants look happy. I am top dressing every week. It seems to be working just fine.
For watering, I am taking them out of the tent, and dunking the pots in a 3gl bucket of water. This is the only way I can get the soil evenly saturated. Its a tedious task, but at least I get the chance to inspect every plant thoroughly.
I will be changing many things for the next run. It will require less work all in all. However, I do enjoy being more involved with the plants.

I didn't waste the plant material. I ate a lot of it in a salad.

By hands the way to do it that way there is less chance of missing anything it's tedious but the best way imo bud
