hey smokemore, where is your hot air exhausted to?
Hey del66666,
I have a 4 inch carbon filter in the tent connected to a 4 inch inline fan which is connected to 4 inch ducting which goes to a back bedroom. I'd like to vent it outside but in order to do that I'd have to cut a hole somewhere. I could vent it out a window but there are homes all around me and all my windows are "visible" so I would have a visible tube blowing out air all the time. This may not be an issue, but I'd rather play it safe.
Now I do have the exhaust vent for the a/c sticking out of one window, which beleive it or not, a couple of neighbors have already asked me about. I just tell them the truth "oh, instead of a window a/c I have a floor unit and that's the exhaust for it". I guess I could use the same excuse for an exhaust duct from my fan, but I don't know, I guess I'm too honest and me saying the exhaust from the a/c is the truth and if I had to fib on the other I'd be scared they'd suspect something. Maybe it's just me.
Now theoretically, with things like I had them, with the a/c basically enclosed in the tent, the a/c exhaust would be a recipe for disaster, that air should absolutely smell so strong it would be a dead giveaway. I solved that problem by doing the following.
I had the 4 inch carbon filter in the top of the tent which pulled out any hot air that would rise to the top, and filter it at the same time. I had the a/c ducts pointed slightly up. Right at the base of the a/c, and also basically inside the tent, I had a 6 inch fan and carbon filter blowing air basically out the bottom of the tent into the room. This created what I think was a circular motion to the air in the tent and also provided filtered, odor free air back in the vicinity of the a/c which allowed for odor free air to be pulled into the a/c intake at the back of the unit, which is the air that gets acted on by the a/c compressor, which is the hot air that blows out the a/c exhaust, which is now odor free.
If I didn't use that 6 inch filter and fan, I think the a/c would have been pumping enough air to overwhelm the 4 inch filter and fan, and therefore, it would have smelled inside the room, thus allowing for smelly air to be taken in by the a/c, thus blowing hot smelly air outside.
I now all that sounds like an incredible expense and hassle, but my living in a trailer (i.e. oven in the summer) is the main problem, and I was gonna grow and have something to smoke no matter what! Now that I've switched to LED's and just have the T5's making most of the heat, I think this summer will be manageable, I should be able to keep the tent closed, have the a/c running as normal, and just use the 4 inch filter and fan exhausting air out of the tent. If for some reason that doesn't work all the way, I can always plug in the 6 inch fan and filter just to be safe.
Sorry for the long reply.
