From my perspective, veg begins once the manifold is built, 3rd topping (for 8 mains) was on july 18, so that would be earliest i would call them in veg. Lights get flipped when they reach “12:12” ht.

These seeds were started for a different grow, and the whole process was subsequently delayed for a number of reasons. Usual process is approximately 30 days seed to 6 nodes/1st topping, 7-10 days between toppings (to grow out 3 new nodes), 2-4 weeks veg to 12:12 ht.

Speed is obviously not my goal; neither is convincing anyone that they should grow like i do.

Day 18: Removed more fan leaves; pulled tall, center laterals to outside of each res perimeter; pulled short, perimeter laterals to center of res.

12-16 primary colas now developing at perimeter of each plant, same to double+ number of shorter tips in center. Still time in stretch phase for shorter tips to race to top.

Pistil development ramping up.

Ppfd ~1000 at tallest tip under each fixture. All other controlled variables in range.

After fighting temp, rh, and light intensity trying to achieve 86F, seems 82-83F airtemp (at ~58-62% rh) is max to use at 1000ppfd, thru end of stretch, when using at least 1500ppm CO2.

With airtemp and/or ppfd higher than this then leaves start to burn (juvenile leaves, between veins near leaf tip).

This is the second key variable that differs from the Chandra levels (optimal cannabis photosynthesis levels), each variable (ppfd, temp) being lower than what were found there.

Will be testing higher temp and intensity in flower development phase.

Day 19: Feeling pretty good about current status, although lost a week to totally new setup & light infiltration issues. Ppfd ~1000 at highest tip under each fixture, all other controlled variables in range.

This is a good learning situation from a bunch of perspectives, but gotta laugh about the plants/strains. Strains are all supposed to be “tall”, but mother nature had other plans. Looks like the diesels are both indica-like phenos, hazes both sativa-like phenos.

Front haze is now up on a high pedestal w wheels (lol), and has some strange shit going on - no outward signs of an issue, but hasn’t needed water addition in 3 days (roots pearly white, smellin fine; still stretchin; leaves normal; budding out like other haze).

Glad i have separate fixtures on each side, and that using pedestals has helped keep similar ppfd levels on shorter plants under each fixture.

Still amazed at how little work it has been to keep tops flat and even - due to use of manifold, daily 180 rotation, and even spread of high intensity lights (w pedestals).

Gotta say, so far, two Timber 48sams (8 hlg/samsung 301b boards) in a 4x4 seems about perfect. That’s 1 board for every 2sq ft of footprint or 60w/sq ft providing an even 1000ppfd across the entire 16sq ft. As noted in the ppfd mapping, the balanced intensity of these lights allows for laying down an even 1000ppfd at any height 18” thru 48” above plant tops; providing same intensity on tops even if fixtures are at diff heights, with absolutely no heat issues - just fucking outstanding!

Can’t wait to see effect of hlg emerson boards as soon as stretch tapers off (probably in next week or so). Current plan will be to run them for full lightson at combined ppfd of 1000; and when plants acclimate, test a higher dli. Will continue lightson:lightsoff at 12:12, w intention to keep benefit of far red initiator for building bigger buds rather than for shortening flower cycle duration.

I wish i had defol mine like you did, I’ll do that on my 2nd grow. I did lolipop tho.

I really want one or 2 of them agromax uv bulbs to add to mine....do u suppose it will help bring out more trichomes/resin? Can i ask were u got um.

Thanks man. Keys to everything in my grows is manifold and intense light.

Love your enthusiasm for trying new things. Actually good thing you haven’t been able to do everything on your 1st grow; you might not be able to tell what does/doesn't work, and keeps up interest for future grows.

Agromax t5s come in 24 and 48” lengths, fit in any t5 fixture. Google agromax uva-b, you’ll find it. Also check out solacure t12 tubes. Both better than “reptile lights”.

If you use uvb, of course protect eyes and skin. Go easy on the dosage so your plants don’t get damaged: test it for 5mins/day, 12-24” from plant, for a week, to see what damage it does, then go from there.

The right amount does increase trichs, whether that translates into increased potency is something that really requires some statistically valid research.

Keep up the good work. I just pulled down over a lb of c99 on two plants mostly grown under “blurples”, kinds no less (which are verboten to most of the cognoscenti here, lol), good shit!

Day 21: More defol today, especially aggressive on diesels, as pistil balls start forming in earnest. Emerson board trigger finger is twitching, but will wait a few days to confirm stretch is done. Ppfd at tallest tip under each fixture ~1000; all other controlled variables in range:

If you don’t do much defol, you might want to check it out. Done at the right time and in the right way, you can focus the plant’s energy on bud development, get light and airflow down deep into canopy, and boost bud quality and yield.

Can’t say enuff goodness about growweedeasy.com, some great tutorials there. Go there, enter defoliation in search box, and learn how to do it well.

Giving your girls a good brazilian wax will scare the hell out of you when you do it, and surprise the shit out of you the following week.

dwc buckets are cool lookin, what that medium? wondering how they hold...i dont see any hydroton, is that just a plug? how do they get support....

SSH, greenhouse seeds (see grow vid posted sept 2). Puchased from sooregonseeds.com

Dwc. 8gal ez-stor buckets and lids (12-13” tall, 16 gals same footprint a little taller). 2 medium airstones. Yep, 3” net cups w hydroton and rr plug, i like 3” better than 5-6” cuz they still allow for 6.5 gal nutesoup in 8 gal bucket, bigger diam -> deeper -> less available volume.

Day 22: Heard something coming from the grow room, sounded like a church choir. Opened the tent door...the girls were in full on worship mode!

Loving how the tulip-shaped training is working on the hazes (right): tall mains/laterals to outside, short laterals to center. Center is still stretching toward sun, perimeter holding steady. Hoping to get close to a flat even top.

Diesels just naturally went to scroglike flat top.

Pistil balls coming in strong. Another week or so and the plants will light up with stars all over them.

Can’t wait any longer...afterburners lit!

Re danglers: in center of fixture, left over from ppfd mapping, handy vertical & horizontal reference, a pen on a string works just as good.

Recovered from defol, pistil balls galore, something(s) workin...

Holding temp 81-83F & dropping rh from mid-60s to upper-50s (vpd 1.1s -> 1.2-1.3s); cranking ppfd from 1000 to 1100, on the road to 65 dli, again; pH 6.1; ec 2.6, lightson:lightsoff 12:12 (qbs & emerson bds); far red 15mins after lightsoff.
