Extraction

Thank you so much -

is propane just as efficient as butane?

thank you
No, but some folks run butane/propane mixes. IE: 70% n-Butane and 30% n-Propane. Butane has no head pressure at -50C, which is the temperature we extracted at to avoid non target elements, using a Terpenator or Lil Terp.

I am going to post this as best as possible

Step 1 - set up system and tighten all pressure seals - vacuum the system to make sure all seals seated and no leaks? Doe I use the valve closest to pressure gauge?
Yes, the one with the JIT flare fitting.

Or does it matter?

Step2 turn off vacuum and close the valves to make sure pressure holds then release pressure and fill colum with solvent and catch into tank shownView attachment 5248812View attachment 5248815
Close the pump valve before shutting off the vacuum pump, to avoid back flowing pump oil into your system.

Allow to sit for five minutes to check for vacuum decay.

The column flooding and subsequent steps should be done outdoors with adequate ventillation, or in an engineered NEMA 7 C1D1 extraction booth.

Thanks man -

is the the correct concept? Fill the sides of first catch with dry ice - let solvent flow through column/product into first reservoir (dry ice surrounding) then after a period of cooling there open both valves so product flows and collects in bottom reservoir? Should I warm bottom resivour?
Thanks
You warm the lower tank during recovery, while chilling your recovery tank. I used 85F for the collection tank and -30C to -50C for my recovery tank, or 110F on the collection tank and an 32F water ice bath for the recovery tank.

Thank you

do I cool in this catch (dry ice in the surrounding areas) before opening both valves to release into bottom?
thank you

You'll need filters. One between the terp column and the collection column to trap the lipids, and I imagine one between the top column and the terp column to trap the raw material. It looks like you can pack the terp column with coffee filters, and same with the funnel column. But I'm not sure about either.

I make a trap using a piece of ashless quantitative filter paper and coffee filters. I've never used dry ice though, so I'm not sure what's best for that setup.

I use one of these:

Yeah. Also if it's cold where you live, put the rig outside for a couple of hours before you start. Not the butane though, keep it inside until you're ready.

Thank you sir

how do I then reclaim butane? I need a reclaim pump or is there another way?

thanks again

Once I got this thing up and running - I’m going to need to send you guys some Chicago deep dish pizzas or some itailian beef for all your help.

if any pros from Chicago on here I can compensate you also if you’d like to do an in person tutorial

thanks again all - it is truly appreciated

You run warm through the collection column's jacket to reverse the process. The bho stays in the splatter platter and the butane returns to the gas tank.

What Lusidghost said. Close collection tank top valve. Connect your collection pot to your recovery tank with a hose, open that valve at the hose connection, open recovery tank valve, and heat the collection pot with hot water, while chilling the recovery tank using ice or dry ice slurry.

Thanks for the kind recompense offer, but please just pass it on to the next brother or sister needing support.

I appreciate it all

butane is gonna cost $240 for a 20#er

do I need a refrigerant scale and how much solvent should I push - I saw a guy on line push 6# in a 1lb extractor

thank you

Using a Terpenator, I typically put three column volumes through. You have to have room in your lower tank to do so, or run it more than once.

As the first volume flowing through does most of the work (80/90%), subsequent volumes are of diminishing returns.

What are the dimensions of your column and ID of your lower tank?

With the inline dewax, as your filter blinds, your flow capabilities drop, so you may have to push, using hot vapors or N2.

A difference in design strategies, as I designed WolfWurx systems to chill the material to -18C in a deep freeze and drop the LPG temperature to -30/-50C before injection, using a dry ice HEX or a counter flow HEX using liquid N2, so as to minimize plant wax extraction in the first place.

May I suggest that you take a step at a time and run it without the inline dewax feature the first time, to get a feel for the system?

Does your system have a central down tube in the lower tank? Can we see a dirty peeecture of the bottom of the lid?

What kind of filter do you use?

I would use a 150 mesh screen at the end of the column and suggest starting with a Whatman #1 filter paper on the inline dewax filter plate.

Not sure what diameter you need, but here is the general idea:

https://www.amazon.com/Whatman-1001-125-Qualitative-Circles-Diameter/dp/B00394F98C/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1DHIIXX9XN1CL&keywords=whatman+filter+paper+grade+1&qid=1674161784&sprefix=whatman+#1+,aps,141&sr=8-3
That's what I use.

The only time I've attempted a non-open blast was by sealing the material column to let it soak, but it ended up clogging. When you use a slurry of dry ice and alcohol, and run butane / propane, does it avoid pulling the lipids to begin with to help avoid clogging up the filters?
