Extraction, heat issues !

Used to have 75f ambient room temperature outside my grow, vented hoods kept it under 82f in the room.

this was 4ftx 8ft rooms with 1,200-2,000w per room. Vented hoods, humidity reasonable, I don't remember what %.
had to run separate ducts for carbon, and outside -to-outside for the hoods. In winter we could run 2,000w per room and use it as heat.

If you can't logistically or financially justify AC, then you need vented hoods man!

I now grow in a chilly ~60-64f basement. So dry and cold. I fucking love it!

To be be honest if I had to run air cooled hoods it would cost about the same as ac, 4 hoods, ducting and 2 fans to deal with 2 hoods each and I can either vent outside or get air in from outside cannot do both where I'm growing ! I'd be sucking in extracted air ! My temps now are between 24/27c as only rocking through the night now ! The way I see it from experience I only need 2c removed to be in goldi locks land !

I always run my lights at night for cooler running.

I run 8pm-2pm the next day for 18-6
8pm-8am for 12/12.

helps keep temps stable with fan controller to slowdown or speed up based on room temps.

That's what I do in the winter. It works great and offsets the gas bill. In the spring heat gets dumped to the garage. In the summer my plants are out in the hoop house so it's not an issue anymore. And I run 1800w of hps/mh, 3x600 in a 4x8. 20200915_072602.jpg
The key to keeping the temps.down for me was running vertical cool tubes and drawing the hot air from the ceiling and dumping it either into the house or the garage.

I'm saying even if the outside air is 90f, it's better than 120+ off the bulbs. So in summer it's sucking from outside, and blowing outside. None of this air enters the grow or even the house. So even if the air is hotter than the room; it's cooler than the bulb, it's a closed system. So this system is running a fan on high, the [separate] carbon filter is just enough to let the plants breathe and control infrared heat.
That's how I was able to run only 7f above ambient with a fair bit of wattage.

I think you are confused on vented hoods, they save a shitload of electricity.
You lose a tad of light intensity, but you can run way more power. I don't have exact figures but you can almost cut the temperature above ambient by half, even if the inlet air to the hoods is way hotter than the room can be.

My LED's of 20% less wattage produce the same room temperature as vented hoods with hps.

Just like saying a ceramic heater is 100% efficient. Cool, but a heat pump can be 300% efficient in the same way. It's not reducing/increasing heat; it's *moving* heat. the fan moves away 2/3 of the heat with say 100w, and the air conditioning uses at minimum 350w with a startup spike of >3x that.

A window ac of 5-8k BTU is like 2,000w startup, and 500w running. Maybe some variable fancy ones draw less.
I like to run cheap undersized units at a 100% "duty cycle" so they only start up once.
if you wanna save money on air conditioning ; buy a small one and have it never shut off.

Evaporative coolers only work in the desert. Like cactus and tumbleweeds 5% humidity; dry. Plus, the plants are sweating anyway.

I used to grow 2lbs/mo with an 80-100amp breaker for the whole house, buried cable couldn't handle any more. Hot water, tv, ac, PlayStation, heat.... Every last watt counted. Had to shower before 5pm if you needed hot water later.

our fuckin air pump was a space and a water heater; all in one!
The hoses would be hot enough to require safety wire.

You can have those four hoods pipes together. It will just be slightly hotter on the surface of the last hood in the chain. The air volume is everything. Even if the exhaust is 120f, it's still cooling the bulbs; big time.

you can run the carbon filter at like 10-30% speed this way. It's not that much more fan wattage.

**** Don't put your house under a vacuum!!!!!!! Think about it..... You want neutral pressure!!!

Carbon is on house-house air, hoods on outside -outside in summer, or house-house in winter.

I'm bang on now with temperature just running through the night, all 4 600w on 600w all night and don't go above 26c anywhere in the space. It's perfect ! As summer comes on that will change though but this be done by middle June give or take a week ! I used air cooled hoods 11/12 years ago and we never got on. I have ideas about air cooled hoods that are not the usual, involving the arc tube, how it works and the temperature needed to be efficient and the work blasts have to do to keep things optimal. See I'm odd in my logic and thoughts ! Lol
