Experiment. How Many 5 Gallon Smart Pots in 8 x 8?

Hello.

I am a hydro guy and am waiting on a 24 site RDWC but until then Im going to be testing some soil.

I have an 8 x 8 and am going to be using 5 gallon smart pots.

How many would you suggest could fit in there?

WIll be doing LST and SCROG using clones.

Veg is 30 Days.

Any help appriciated.

Mainly doing a test as we as growers are all experimenting.

Light will not be an issue will be using 6 Platinum LED 900s which are 515 watts each for a total of just over 3k watts.

Looking for max yield obviously.

I am going to try to pack as many as I can in there with a full scrog net covering the whole room.

Looking to do as many plants as possible.

Maybe 20 - 40 if 40 could fit.

Any help is great.

Best I can tell a 5g smart pot is around 8.5" so you could fit one per sq ft.
A 5 gallon smartpot is 12" and after you fill it with soil it'll stretch to 13". I use 14" trays under them because they won't fit in the 12" trays.

I would go with 16-20 plants total

That's what I was thinking but for some reason amazon listed them as 8.5. But yea, at 13" you could still fit 9 per 4 x 4 and get 36 plants in there. Don't get me wrong I think it defeats the purpose of a scrog, but any scrog with a lower plant count is going to have increased veg time. As well any significant amount of lst would require it as well. Seems like the op is wanting some conflicting things here lol

I prefer a longer veg time. In the same 4x4 I would go with 4 plants max, hence my estimate of 16 plants. Keep in mind he said "month long veg time from clone" I think that is very much doable.

Thanks.

Going 30 days of Veg.

trying to get as many pots and max yield.
Was thinking maybe 24 plants.

Going to do some measuring tonight so see whats doable.

Also what yield per plant you pulling witha good strain?
Im newer to SCROG coming from SoG and hydro.

Dont want to put less plants where I could fit more and gain more yeild.

5-6 oz a plant with a longer veg. Even if you only pull 4 oz a plant you're still looking at 4 lbs from 16 plants.
4lbs under 3k of LED is very low.
thats 2lbs off.

Im going to do a test and measure the diameter say 14" each total and see how manY i can get in there with some accurate measurements.

1.2-1.8 gpw.

Paltinum LED are by far the best LED out there with best par and spectrum.

Would be differant if I was talking HPS but I dont do HPS anymore. Inefficvient.
Thanks for the rough numbers.

Yea that why I said 5-6 oz per plant, but we've all over estimated our harvest before...

NEVERMIND, got my maths wrong on that one! Somehow my first run thru came up with only half...
No worries. I just assumed you were unframiliar with LED (the good ones)

I think im going to go with 25 5 gallon smart air pruning pots .

Aiming for 4.5-6 OZ a plant.

6lbs goal which is very doable with these LED.

Thanks for confirming.

Seeing as each is 14"
My tent is 8 x 8.

So I can fit 6 14 " 5 gallon smart pots along each 8 x 8 so
6 x 6 = 36.

36 of them.

I will do some serious measuring tonight as I want to get as many in there as I can under scrog. Im aware it may be a bit crowded but the scrog will help. maxing yeild is what im all about.

8x8= 64 square footage. 64/2= 32 pots. I would fit 1 plant per 2 square feet. 32 (5 gal) potted plants would fit comfortably with out overcrowding with most strains.

Trippy not to be negative to you but i think youre overestimating your plant potential (6 oz from a plant vegged for only 30 days is very unlikely.) Overcrowding your tent with that many plants under a scrog. Leds are great i own the solar storm 440. But to say the platinum led is the best out there is generous at most. Then to discredit hps is bias at best. And to say 4lbs from 3k worth of led is low is just untrue. In fact its very average. Seems to me you are setting yourself up for failure. Not to be mean or discouraging.
