I have heard alot from leds being bad they dont work well at all to others that think they are everything so what are your personal opinions about growing with leds? me i think you get what you pay for but they are so expensive so can anyone suggest a good site that the money is worth it.

im thinking of vegging with leds then flowering with a HPS what do you think?
i am wanting to veg two plants for a lil over a month maybe even two so how much leds would i need to have plenty of light for this?
and

do i need a light spectrum i am not aware that leds have them but please tell me if they do or maybe they have the kelvin rating like cfls.

LEDs are getting better every day. You'll read and hear about people who were disappointed with them, but those people generally bought cheap LEDs or believed the marketing hype. If you replace 400 watts of CFL or HID lighting with 400 watts of quality LEDs, you will get better results, to a point. It's debatable whether you can replace a 1000-watt HID with LED. To replace your 4 20-watt CFLs, you would not go wrong with the 180-watt Blackstar light: http://www.gothamhydroponics.com/grow-lights/gotham-hydro-led-grow-lights.html.

A couple people with actual experience (and not just second-hand opinion) with LEDs are:

led's are great for veg, i use a couple of cheap led panels with some t5's for my veg cab .. but in my opinion they do not penetrate enough for flowering . your right on using the hps for flowering ... i cant direct you to anywhere that sells led's .. just google them , but watch prices .. most arent worth what they ask . i would go with your cfl's and add a few more for veg while you research pricing on led's

happy growin

well the easiest way is just jump in lol .. crack some seeds and go from there .. watch them grow and learn to read your plants lol you can always change lighting as you learn more

Read up on PAR. HPS is a known quantity but current bulbs leave a lot on the table. HO T5s rock when used with coral bulbs (from the aquarium industry for growing coral and kelp). Here are a few pics of my grow now in early 3rd week of flower using coral bulbs
