Exhausting outside during winter question

Hey all

Curious if anyone has had the issue of when exhausting out a window during winter, the hot air from the room/tent (in my case will be tent) when compressed and forced out the window into the cold air causes steam. And if it does, do most people try and do something to cool the air before it goes out or its not important enough to get paranoid about?

No different than a dryer vent. A dryer vent would make more steam than a grow. Just make the vent to look like it would be coming from a dryer and say ya do a lot of laundry because some people dont like to smell like baboons.

Well the only thing is that a dryer isn't running 24/7 (I'm assuming even when the lights are off for 12 hours, the air from the tent will still be hot enough to cause steam when released to outside air in the winter (it gets pretty cold here!).

The other thing is I wanted to set up my grow room in a spare bedroom, so the exhaust would likely have to be out of a window.

hey scrappy...was worried bout same thing...what happens if no exhaust in closet?leave door open? lol

I grow in my second bedroom also and I live in the NE so what I did was I ran an exhaust into the closer of the grow room which just happens to be adjacent to my bedroom closet so I just exhaust the air right into my bedroom and I live on the 1st floor so i just cut holes in the wood floors and get my fresh air from the basement (cool air in the summer too)

Hey Matt, thanks for the reply!

Still a little confused. So you take the exhaust from your grow tent/room and vent it into the closet that the grow room/tent is in? And because that closet is adjacent to your bedroom closet, the air goes through a vent (i'm assuming) from the grow room closet to your closet? Or did you make a hole in the closet to allow the exhaust?

Also, you cut holes in your floor? that seems a bit extreme doesn't it? unless there is still something i'm missing lol

So I run 6inch fan out of my tent into 6 in ducting that connects to Y joint 6x6x8 the other 6 going to a carbon filter in my veg area (in the same room just outside the tent) the the 8jnch side going into an 8inch inline fan which propelled the air through 8" ducting into my closet where I've cut a hole and mounted a plastic piece which screws over the hole and the exhaust connects to this piece the air ends up smell free in my bedroom closet


And yes I cut holes in my floor bc I have a slum lord and igaf

Ohhh ok that makes sense and sounds like a sweet set up! I'm not very handy so not sure how good i'd feel about cutting holes, specially since I'm assuming even closet to closet there would be insulation and what not you'd have to cut through.

But basically, it sounds like whenever people on this site state "I vent into another room" its likely that they cut a hole somewhere and did what you are doing by connecting the ducting?

Well i'll definitely keep that option, but will likely try a window or vent leading outside that is already installed first.

btw, do you find one scrubber is all that is needed? I had a grow a few years ago in a grow tent that was in my basement and as soon as the girls flowered my carbon scrubber could not destroy the smell. Just walking in my front door the smell hit me right away even with my basement door closed and scrubber working 24/7.

I should mention I rent I don't own so I live in a 3 decker and no one ever going in the basement ... My heat broke over a week ago and my landlord still hasn't even had a plumber look at it yet

I have a can 33 for my flower then which is the Agro max xl tent I'm pretty sure it's like 4x8 or something and I have another can 66 for my veg area both with their own fans ...

Idk I've never used a filter before so we'll see how it goes

You also need to read how the scrubber is rated they have max cfm fans that can be used and minimal cfm fans that should be used to be most effective

You just cut a hole with a hole saw, connect a flange to the hole and connect your ducting, it's fairly simple

just get a/c and scrub the room.

ya my scrubber was generic so I wasn't really sure of the cfm, and I usually only ran my fan on 70% or so because it was so loud, I might upgrade or somehow build a sound dulling box around it. Also, my tent had air leaks and I figured the intake was enough to prevent any non filtered air from leaving but it probably wasn't.

What about if you want to resell your place? could be a bit of a hassle to put back if there is insulation and dry wall I would think.

I'd say drywall tape over the hole, drywall compound over top, sand it and texture over that I'm no expert at all though lol

They sell little screens you can put over smallish holes and you just put spacle over them wait for it to dry and them sand it down and paint over it

I have a tent in my bedroom closet. One of the sides of the closet is right op against an exterior wall (masonite.) The ceiling of the closet is right against the attic. Would it make sense to just cut a hole into the attic with a 4" hole drill and vent up there in the warmer months? I use a proper scrubber.
