GOP lawmaker slams Republican colleagues over Ukraine support: ‘They would like to see the Russians win’
Republican Rep. Don Bacon (Neb.) ripped into his colleagues who oppose further funding for Ukraine, arguing they “would like to see” Russia win the more than two-year war against Kyiv.
“Now for Ukraine, they have no more artillery. If we do not do this, the Russians will be in Kyiv. Unfortunately, a few of my colleagues would like to see the Russians win. I don’t know why that is the case. I think it’s a terrible thing,” Bacon said in an interview with C-SPAN.
His remarks come as House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) attempts to move forward a series of foreign aid bills that would include funding for Ukraine, Israel, allies in the Indo-Pacific and other national security priorities. Votes on separate portions of the package are expected by this weekend.
The move to bring Ukraine aid to the floor was quickly criticized by some members of the House’s right flank, who argue funding should be geared towards domestic issues, including the country’s southern border security.
“Ukraine wants to be free. They want to have a free market economy. They want to be part of the West and it can be a game changer for Europe, for Ukraine to do that,” Bacon said. “We should help them on that path.”
Johnson is facing mounting scrutiny from House conservatives who are pressing him to use the GOP’s House majority to clinch greater Republican victories.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) introduced a motion to vacate Johnson from the Speakership last month over his handling of government spending and move to bring Ukraine aid to the floor.
Bacon acknowledged the possibility of Johnson being booted from the top spot but expressed confidence that the Speaker’s support would save him from any motion to vacate.
“I believe it may happen, but I think there’s enough support that Speaker Johnson is going to remain and he should,” Bacon said. “He’s been a good man. He’s a man of character. He’s trying to do the right thing whether you always agree with him or not.”
“He means well. He’s trying his best, he has a good compass, moral compass and he seeks the need to get this done,” he continued.
Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas.) expressed a similar sentiment to CNN earlier in the day, arguing those behind the motion to vacate are siding with Russia.
“I guess their reasoning is that they want Russia to win so badly that they want to oust the Speaker over it,” Crenshaw said Thursday. “I mean, it’s a strange position to take.”

Former President Trump questioned why European nations weren’t providing more support to Ukraine, but stopped short of weighing in on a foreign aid package proposed by Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) that has sparked outcry from some House Republicans.
“Why isn’t Europe giving more money to help Ukraine? Why is it that the United States is over $100 Billion Dollars into the Ukraine War more than Europe, and we have an Ocean between us as separation!” Trump wrote Thursday on Truth Social as he attended the third day of his hush money trial in New York City.
“Why can’t Europe equalize or match the money put in by the United States of America in order to help a Country in desperate need?” he continued. “As everyone agrees, Ukrainian Survival and Strength should be much more important to Europe than to us, but it is also important to us! GET MOVING EUROPE!”
A tracker maintained by the Institute for the World Economy shows that total European aid for Ukraine has actually overtaken U.S. assistance, though much of that is in the form of financial and humanitarian aid. The United States has provided significantly more military aid to Ukraine, with the tracker showing Europe would have to double its pace of arms assistance to fully replace the U.S. commitment.
Trump’s post comes as House Republicans are divided over moving forward with a series of bills that would provide aid to Ukraine, Israel and allies in the Indo-Pacific.
Johnson has attempted to placate his conservative critics by splitting the components of a Senate-passed foreign aid package into three separate pieces, as well as two additional bills that include provisions on border security and other foreign aid proposals favored by Republicans.
But the decision to move forward has outraged Trump allies such as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who has threatened to oust Johnson from the Speakership if he goes ahead with a Ukraine aid bill.
Greene and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), another Trump ally, seized on Trump’s Truth Social post to claim he was opposing the foreign aid legislation, though the former president’s post did not take a position on the matter.
During a meeting last week with Johnson at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, the former president signaled an openness to Republicans approving additional aid for Ukraine if it came in the form of a loan.
“We’re looking at it right now, and they’re talking about it, and we’re thinking about making it in the form of a loan instead of just a gift,” Trump said at the time.

It's called framing. Just like when some MAGA Senator said the EV car industry is collapsing and cited Tesla's difficulties in car sales to support his argument. Well, Tesla isn't the whole market, which sold a record number of EV cars. Citing Tesla's results framed the senator's speech to give a false impression in order to justify his false argument. It's a lie, but it created an impression of truth that will stick. That's how propaganda works.
So, Trump whined (when doesn't he?) that European countries aren't contributing even close to what the US in providing financial and military aid. It's called framing. The US has a much larger population. In terms of amount per person, the US isn't even close to holding up its end compared to European countries.

Grievances that excuse being cheap are easier to take for some than hearing that we could be doing much more. Latvia, Lithuania and Poland know better than we do what's at risk and making much more painful decisions than orange stinky poo and his stinky poo ass kissers are willing to acknowlege.

Answer: They aren't. They are paying for the weapons that US companies are profiting from selling.
