Examples of GOP Leadership

This cracked me up

Short term this is a disaster for Oregon. Our legislative session is scheduled to end soon and they haven't even discussed next year's budget. We passed that measure last year -- the one that forces out legislators who accrue more than 10 unexcused absences because Republicans have been using this tactic to stop progress. It's gotten to the point now that we are at a standstill.

You know by now how it goes, Republicans will find a favorable judge to rule in their favor and make it difficult to enforce the law. Note that all of their stalling and damage to the state is to prevent the majority from doing what it wants. Completely anti-democratic measures. Fascists don't care who gets hurt.

Long term, assuming Republicans continue to lose politically and we prevail in the courts, Oregon might have just shown other states how to govern despite a fascist minority.

what made me chuckle was that the walkout somehow serves “transparency”. Orwell woulda grimly nodded at the newspeak.

Hope you do! It's a good state and hope you kick out the fascists.

Bobo aside, I am thankful the republicans have made themselves a non issue in my state. I'm hopeful on the county level, I live in the lone conservative leaning area of the Denver metro and they are quickly losing hold.

Never have I been so interested in school boards, considering giving it a run :)

Please, not this!!

PAC to draft Tucker Carlson for president launches
A political action committee to get former Fox News host Tucker Carlson to run for president is making its launch with an ad that praises him for mocking “woke nonsense” — and is aiming to pull the GOP presidential field to the right.
The Draft Tucker PAC, a hybrid PAC that filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission in late April shortly after Carlson was ousted from Fox News, debuted an ad on Thursday evening that is set for an initial weeklong ad on the conservative Newsmax cable channel next week.

“Republicans need a new leader, and Tucker Carlson is ready to lead,” the ad says. “No one in America is more articulate and pins down leftists in both parties better than Tucker.”

It compares the former Fox News host to the late radio host Rush Limbaugh.
“Tucker Carlson is witty, sharp, and mocks woke nonsense,” the ad says. “Tucker will whip Biden in a debate.”

Chris Ekstrom, a former Texas congressional candidate and GOP donor, is the PAC’s chairman and a financial backer of it.
Ekstrom said he knows Carlson “vaguely,” and that he was approached about forming the PAC prior to Carlson being terminated by Fox News, but thought it was not feasible if he was still a primetime host. But with that concern now gone, he thinks a Carlson presidential run is a “realistic opportunity.” He finds neither former President Trump nor Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) “fully satisfactory.”

“I’m very concerned that they’re going to not move the debate as far right as it ought to be,” Ekstrom said. “If Tucker Carlson entered the race in a reasonable amount of time and just continued in the same territory that he was covering at Fox, I think that’d be a rude awakening for both President Trump and Governor DeSantis.”

Charlie Kolean, a GOP political consultant who is working as the PAC’s executive director, thinks voter enthusiasm for Carlson can also influence the rest of the primary field.

“I think it will move the conversation to the right, just in a macro way, with candidates taking more solid stances rather than being like a moderate Republican,” Kolean told The Hill.

Carlson has repeatedly dismissed the idea of a White House run, saying in 2021 that he could do it if he was “the last person on earth” and joking about a run earlier this month, telling an Insider reporter that he would announce a presidential run in New Hampshire before saying: “Totally kidding. Sorry.”

But that has not kept his fans from urging him to make the jump.
Republican presidential candidate and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy said when Carlson was ousted from Fox News that he would make “a good addition to the race.”

Kolean said that even if Carlson is not seriously considering a presidential run right now, the recruitment campaign makes sense for those who want to see him as a candidate. He noted former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson launched a 2016 run despite previously saying he had no desire to do so after a well-funded Draft Ben Carson super PAC formed.

Ekstrom said he thinks Carlson has been “testing the water for quite a while,” including speaking at the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa in 2022, an event that traditionally has been a stop for potential presidential candidates.

Kolean said the PAC is “exceptionally well-funded,” and that it will “easily” spend at least $150,000 just building name recognition alone. The group aims to sponsor polls and expand to radio and digital ads. Its yet-to-be-announced board will be made up of “major conservatives.”

“I can tell you that money is not going to be a problem,” Ekstrom said.
“THIS is good news for John McCain!”

I never get tired of Cocker Carlson - but honestly, he was more authentic before the plastic surgery:

The trouble Tim Scott has is today's republican base would rather lynch him than elect him. If he ever beat Trump for the nomination Donld would lose his mind and you will hear his howl all the way from prison! Meatball Ron would be far more dangerous just because he's white and the republican party is a deeply racist organization these days, Tim might as well be running for Grand Wizard of the KKK!

Steve Schmidt breaks down Tim Scott’s presidential announcement speech. He discusses the possibility of the senator from South Carolina surpassing Ron DeSantis in the polls and challenging former President Donald Trump to be the Republican nominee in 2024.

If Texas no longer requires annual safety inspections, what happens if your state does require safety inspections and you get cars from Texas? Can you pull them over and remove them from the road or tow them to the closest inspection point and inspect them? If you can't drive in your state without a safety inspection, why should someone from Texas be allowed to? Seems to me that a car with Texas plates should be pulled over and made to have an inspection or loaded on a flatbed Truck and shipped back to Texas at the owner's expense. Elect idiots to government and pay a price, our state, our rules, now pay the fine and expenses of a vehicle inspection or transport back to Texas! Freedumb comes at a price, and stupidity is often expensive, give America the finger and have it shoved up yer ass.

nothing happens...You only have to follow the laws for the state your vehicle is registered in...they don't make you pass inspection every time you visit California, only if you register a vehicle there.

Pretty sure that's correct. Are there any states that don't have mandatory auto insurance? That would be more of a concern especially if your POS car caused a serious accident.

Here in Alberta you only need to get cars older than 10 years inspected and that's only if it changes hands. We kept fire and theft on our 2005 Malibu for a year or so then dropped that so now when I get the brakes done in the next little while it will have to be inspected again if I want to put it back on the road. Then if I sold it the next day whoever buys it would have to get it inspected again. Found a local guy who works cheap and everyone says he does good work and he's licensed to do in-province inspections and will do it for $50. The pro shop I usually go to charges $175 and $300 for out of province like for the car I'm driving now. Mom's 2008 Saturn Vue she gave me a couple years ago. Great car too.

Do all states inspect safety vehicles? If you have to inspect yours, they could come into your state with anything as long as it can run on the roads. How about transport trucks, are they safety inspected too? Here we do in annually or every 2 years.

Since we don’t have a default thread, I’m putting this here.

However this excerpt puzzles me. Democrats demanding tax cuts?

McCarthy has dragged Biden to the negotiating table, which the president resisted for months. He’s taken any tax cuts — which Democrats have demanded in past debt limit fights — off the table.

Yeah, I read the same article earlier and was confused by that as well. I took it for a typo. Should have been Republicans.

no, most do not. all they check for is to see if you have the minimum insurance coverage required by the law, after that, most states don't check anything.
The DMV checks your vehicle for minimum safety equipment when you take a driving test, but it has nothing to do with whether or not the vehicle can be on the road outside of that test.

Trump Justice Department kept Clinton Foundation case open until last days of presidency: report
The Trump administration’s Department of Justice (DOJ) kept an investigation into the Clinton Foundation open until the last days of his presidency, The New York Times reported Monday.

The Times reported that documents and interviews with former DOJ officials revealed that the investigation continued significantly beyond the point that FBI agents and prosecutors knew that the case would not result in any charges being filed.

The Times obtained the documents through a Freedom of Information Act request.
The case looked into the Clinton Foundation’s relationship with foreign donors while Hillary Clinton, who ran against former President Trump in 2016, was serving as secretary of state during the Obama administration.

Trump often led chants during his rallies in 2016 of “lock her up,” referring to Clinton.
Conservative author Peter Schweizer wrote a book in 2015 discussing donations that foreign entities made to the Clinton Foundation, setting off attacks on the foundation and calls for a probe.

The criticism of the foundation centered around donations that the Clinton Foundation received from a Canadian company called Uranium One as the company was being sold to a Russian nuclear agency. Clinton as secretary of state served on a committee that needed to vote to approve the deal at the time.

The FBI in Washington, D.C., New York and Little Rock, Ark., opened investigations into the situation. The DOJ under the Obama administration did not make much of the investigations, frustrating FBI agents who felt the DOJ was creating an obstacle for their work, according to the New York Times.

The deputy attorney general’s office, under the Trump administration, indicated that it would support the investigation in 2017, the Times reported. Prosecutors issued a subpoena for the foundation in 2018, and investigators interviewed the foundation’s former chief financial officer.
Prosecutors in Little Rock closed the case in January 2021, but the top agent there wanted it to be publicly stated that the prosecutors, and not the FBI agents, made the decision, according to the Times.

Craig Minassian, a spokesperson for the Clinton Foundation, told The Hill in a statement that the reports from The New York Times and special counsel John Durham, who recently completed an investigation into the FBI’s probe into ties between Trump and Russia, show that the investigation into the foundation was launched because of the book, which has been discredited by organizations like The Washington Post, PolitiFact and FactCheck.org.

“The report shows, once again, the Clinton Foundation has been subjected to politically motivated allegations with no basis in fact,” Minassian said. “Despite this, what remains true is that our work makes a meaningful difference in the lives of millions of people across the United States and around the world.”
The Hill has reached out to the FBI and DOJ for comment.

well, that can't be accurate, that would mean the republicans were weaponizing the DOJ, and we all know how against that they are....

They pass the debt ceiling and move on. The time to "negotiate" is during the budget, not about whether to pay the bills that congress already authorized. Let the republicans run on their budget and have an election over what they want to cut. If the republicans never increased the national debt by 25% during the Trump administration, people might take them seriously. If congress authorized the spending, then they should pay the bills and not crash the economy as a political stunt.
