Heritage Foundation mouthpiece: "uh, I think we should not take Katie Porter's investment opportunity because its investing other people's money"

Government provided child care is a good investment. We know this. We know this because parents who can afford to invest in child care, do so. It's considered a necessity, not a luxury.

I'm willing to hazard a guess that for each dollar "invested" in that consultant, society gets less benefit than it would if the dollars were put into investing in child care for lower income workers who just a few years ago were designated "necessary workers" and therefore were not eligible for paid time off during the Covid crisis.

Katie Porter shoved that right wing propaganda minister's words right back at her with a credible personal story backed by the facts about child care.

I loved the ending:

Heritage Foundation mouthpiece: "Can I respond to that?" Katie: "No, you may not" EOS

If I could, I'd advise that consultant to stop baring her teeth at people. It's a bad look.

""Sleepy Don", I kind of like that, I think I'll use it in the future."

"Of course, the 2024 election is in full swing and yes, age is an issue. I'm a grown man, running against a six year old"

"Did you hear what Donald said about a major Civil War Battle? "Gettysburg ... Wow!" (laughs, shakes head, crosses himself), Trump's speech was so embarrassing, the statue of Robert E Lee surrendered AGAIN".

But after some levity, Joe got serious and thanked the US press corps for their work, reporting the "truth over lies". He closed with this: "there are some who call you the enemy of the people, that's wrong and its dangerous. You literally risk your lives, doing your job. You do." ... "Journalism is not a crime, not here, not there, not anywhere in the world, and Putin should release Even and immediately."

What a refreshing difference from the kinds of things his opponent says. Has Trump mentioned even once the plight of US citizens held captive in Putin's jails, not just the media but any of them? So, thanks Joe. Let's kick the shit out of Republicans in the election next fall.

It's not as if that website is all alone in reporting that Biden's polling numbers indicate there are troubles that must be faced and addressed by Democrats in this election season. The Bulwark is not run by Democrats. It's run by conservatives who were once Republicans but have been run out of what was once their party by Trump's radical and extremist faction. They are very worried about Democrat's chances this fall but are rallying to Biden and helping Democrats because they see the risk posed by Trump and MAGA as the main issue of this election.

Anyway, this interview with Simon Rosenberg gives reasons why Democrats should be optimistic about the prospects of not only winning the presidential election but why Rosenthal thinks we are going to kick their asses.

Simon Rosenberg: I Think We're Going to Kick His Ass

https://www.thebulwark.com/p/simon-rosenberg-i-think-were-going

He's not entirely rosy about the election:

at 28:00:
Simon: " I'm not being Pollyannaish here, the election is tied. I don't think anybody should be happy about that, some of our coalition is wandering, I think we've got to get them back."
Tim: "you agree with that, you aren't doing poll trutherism here"
Simon: "no"
Tim: "You think the election is basically tied right now. You talked about how the Biden team seems very calm or sanguine about things, I forget the term you used"
Simon: "Quietly confident"
Tim: "Quietly confident. That worries me a little bit. I've heard from Biden people personally and in the New Yorker article, we interviewed Evan Onos about this. There are high level Biden people that think the polls are broken. That do think the polls are misrepresenting reality. And I don't really share that view."
Simon: "This has been kind of .. not, and I've been accused of poll trutherism, right"
Tim: "I wasn't accusing you (laughs)"
Simon: "I know, I know, Let me try to explain the reality of this as opposed to the caricature of this. I think there is a quiet confidence that once we push the chess pieces forward. That, Joe Biden is a good president, people are better off, we have a strong case to make, we are raising tons more money that they are, our party is more unified, right? We've been winning elections all across the country. When voters have to go out and vote, we've been overperforming expectations, they keep underperforming. And then, there's their dumpster fire shit show on the other side. Where the RNC is completely broke and broken, there is an unprecedented rebellion against the nominee the likes of which we've never seen in our lifetime"
Tim: "You are talking about the primary?"
Simon: "Yeah, well, no. I mean, all of you (chuckles), we are talking about Romney, two former vice presidents, Republican nominee of the party, right? Many other Republican Party leaders, Chris Christie announced he was not able to support Trump. We've never seen that kind of rebellion against the nominee of one party and I think, as you know, the whole premise of your work is creating that permission structure for Republicans to not vote for Republicans. We have more powerful tools in order to do that than we've ever had. And it's why I think this Never Trump or Never MAGA wing of the Republican Party is going to be, this is an existential threat to Trump in 2024.
Because I think something broke in the Republican Party with Dobbs. In that I think for many in the Republican Party they said, "OK, this is a bridge too far, they've gone too far, the party is too dangerous". And what you've seen happen is in practically every election since 2022, that Democrats have overperformed expectations and Republican have underperformed. ... I think as people have gone through the process of having to vote, right, where they go from being a registered voter to a likely voter to a voter. Right? That when they start looking at MAGA, the ugliness of MAGA is causing Republicans to lose votes and to lose money."

The whole interview is pretty good and I found interesting. They don't just dwell on Republicans and the threat Trump faces from the revolt going on right now in that party. They talk about the student unrest and how Simon thinks that is in issue but not a large one for the election. They talk about Latino voters and why, though proportionally more are voting Republican now than before, the Latino vote still favors Biden by a large margin. And other reasons why Republicans are simply sucking when it comes to this election season.

So, yes, polls show one thing but there are plenty of other factors in play that are not reflected in the polls. Such as a large rebellion among Republicans who are repulsed by Trump. And the racism Trump holds against Latinos that cause them to vote for Biden over Trump. And the effect that the Dobbs decision has on the votes of women. Democrats have their work cut out for them. The election is basically tied right now and even if all the things Rosenberg talks about fall in Democrats' favor, the election will still be close but he still thinks Democrats are going to kick the Republican Party's ass in the fall.

Can't anyone think/see for themselves? Who really needs a poll to "see" if someone is a piece of shit or not?

I'll take half a sleepy old man over an old orange clown piece of shit any day.

Blaming Biden for high prices all over the world is not gonna cut it for me. Soon as they closed everything for Covid I knew this would happen no matter who the president would be. Rich scumbags lost a lot of money so rich scumbags had to make it back. Now it is just greed keeping prices where they are. Someone is raking it in big time and it aint any of us.

New CBS Polls Find Biden Gaining, Erasing Trump Leads in Key Battlegrounds
A brief Sunday post. The CNN poll is an outlier and should be treated that way

A new series of polls released by CBS News have very good news for Joe Biden and the Democrats:

  • Michigan Biden 51-49
  • Pennsylvania, Wisconsin Trump 50-49
These polls represent at least a 4 point Biden gain (and perhaps as much as 6-7 pts) from CBS’ last poll which had the Trump up 52-48 nationally. They also confirm trends I’ve been writing here for weeks now - the election is changing, it’s getting bluer, and Trump can no longer be said to lead either nationally or in the battlegrounds. It is a close, competitive election now that has moved in our direction in recent weeks and we need to put our heads down and together go win this thing. For those following Michigan note this is now the third poll in the last few weeks showing Biden with a slight lead there.

There is also a new CNN poll today showing Trump with a 49-43 national lead. Given that dozens of other national polls have shown the race within the margin of error and many have shown Biden gaining or with leads THIS CNN POLL IS AN OUTLIER and should be treated that way by CNN and other commentators. Any attempt to use the CNN to guide one’s understanding of the election given that dozens of other polls are showing a completely different race (tied) would be journalistic and/or analytical malpractice. A few months ago the Washington Post published a poll that they considered an outlier, and acknowledged it in their article about the poll, pointing out that their data was different from many other recent polls. CNN and other commentators should do the same with this poll.

Not that you are saying it but I have long considered people telling me that something can't be done to be a gift.

So, thank you all you Trump lovers/Democrat haters who keep posting polls that seem to suggest Biden is losing the election campaign. If Trump wins, I'll say you were right. If Biden wins, my silence on the matter to you will be all I need to say.

I prefer leaders who don't try to overthrow the government in order to stay in power. That, in my opinion should be a clear bright line that disqualifies them. Along with a history of rape and fraud, financial or otherwise, or a history of criminal behavior without a clear sign of their having reformed. If allowed to become entrenched in government, these are characteristics that make corrupt behavior a requirement for office, not something that hangs around in the background and is hard to root out.

After that, let us debate without fear of being menaced or harmed for expressing our beliefs and let our leaders compete on ideas.

From their actions and methods MAGA Republicans have openly displayed over the past 10 years -- not all people who hold traditional conservative values -- but the extreme authoritarian right have become a danger to our republic. While many traditional conservatives actively oppose the MAGA movement, about 30% of the voting population have become MAGA Republicans, and the Republican Party's hard core base. Their leaders have given up on all of those standards outlined above. So my field of selection has narrowed to choosing from only Democrats.

Too funny that Republicans think Biden is unfit for office when Trump is exhibiting all of the classic signs of early to mid stage dementia while sitting in court for yet another trial regarding financial fraud.
