I'm posting this to see peoples germination techniques, the way I do it and always will . I drop my seed(s) in to a cut up bottle ( I use the bottom as a container) leave them in there on a (bath towel on the radiator (so the don't get to hot) until I see the start of the root popping out then drop them in my medium which I use soil and bobs your uncle, everyone has there own technique and there's no wrong way to do what works for you so I'm interested to see how many different ways people use and how many do the famous tissue/paper towel technique

For me, while the paper towel method may work well enough, I prefer to use a old school film black plastic film container, fill it with cotton, and carefully seal the seeds inside on the moist/damp cotton.. To get the seeds moving, I will start them in a cup of water, and poke the floaters ever several hours... once the majority of them sinks when poked, or atleast doesn’t float back up, they are ready for the fil container... Newer/fresher/vigorous seeds tend to start “sinking” around 12 hours with another 12-18 hours needed in the container to give me a 1/4-3/8 inch tap root and ready plant.. older seeds tend to be about double each of those times, so a day in a cup of water, and a day+ in the film container.
After trying several different methods over the past 3-4 years and 24-30 packs of seeds grown out, that has become my absolute method

I put the seed in soil, water it in, and wait for it to sprout.

All these other convoluted processes are a waste of time.
I use to think the same, but after 4 side by side tests with different packs of seeds, I gain an extra 24-36 hours of growth by pre-sprouting. Nothing major at all, and like you said, can be an unnecessary step, but often, I need ever hour of growth I can get to keep my op running ideally.

I use rapid rooter or root riot type starter cubes, in a standard 25 cube tray with a dome and heat mat, inside a small tent (about 2.5' square ish), with a 24W blue LED. So far 100% germination of 21 seeds, and 100% of 25 clones rooted. Drop the seeds in point down or it might not come up. One of mine got turned around, thought it had sprouted and lost its Cotyledons somehow, but it was upside down, the root grew up and out the starter hole. I pulled it out and flipped it around. She is still alive a few days later, so even if she dies, I still claim 100% with the way I am using. My own stupidity will be why she dies if she does
