Even a pin hole could make a huge difference!!!!!....

...Or that is what I've been told about keeping our plants in "COMPLETE" darkness when in 12/12 flowering mode. At first thought, my BS meter is pinned into the red. Now i'll be the first to say I don't know jack about growing weeds or anything for that matter, but a "pin hole" of light getting in....come on!!!

hey old goat, lets look at this logicly shall we? When plants that grow outside do they not get starlight, moonlight that sort of thing? No a pin prick will not harm your plants. I have had no issues whats so ever. You are right to trust you bs meter. Just remeber we are trying to replicate nature inside.

Thanks JL73. My BS meter is pretty accurate for the most part. Just wanted conformation from the pro's.

Pin hole ? No but very little light leaking in will cause lots of problems. I fought light leaks for a long time. You need to go in your grow room with lights off and let your eyes adjust for 5 min and see what if any light you can detect. It caused my plants to take a lot longer to really bloom after 12/12 and gave me much smaller buds. Its worth the time to get rid of the leaks trust me.

Agreed. It's like saying your tv will leak light under the closet door and bam you got hermies
Thanks malicifice. I'm growing for a person that has a lot of mental issues. This was one of his teachings. He fashions himself as a master grower.

That's just what I was doing today. Taping over pin holes.

No need to go crazy with pin holes. As long as it stays dark and you cant see in your room even after your eyes adjust then you are good. Pin hole may be pervieved differntly by peple as well. I think of it as a actual pin hole. Others might think of it as a very small hole which is much bigger then an actual pin hole. I wish I had figured this out a couple years earlier myself.

My room is not completely sealed. I have only been growing for about a year and have yet to have any issues with hermie or loss of buds mass. Come on people think about the moon and stars outside in the night sky. We all just need to use a little common sence with growing of this weed. This plant is nothing special as far as growing. Just light, food, water. Just like any other plant. When i first started growing i bought into all the hype, well not anymore and my yeilds are getting bigger. I also grow for others. I do not sell. Check this out i think it will help you out since this is your first. https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/277820-noob-advice.html

According to Jorge Cervantes, light during the dark period should never be more than the full moon. You BS radar was correct! There's a lot of misinformation from people who don't even grow going on here.

Welcome to rollitup,
Yea, be real. A single pin hole? no way. just do the best you can, if they dont flower in a couple weeks do better.

you are correct. imo, i doubt a pine hole will make much difference. i work 3 part times jobs and have a very odd and busy work schedule. i have a 4th job as a caregiver. sometimes i cant get to my plants until its after lights out in my tent. i take the plants out in a well lit up room and water them, cut off dead leaves, etc. sometimes it takes about an hour. this extra interrupted light seems to cause no negative effects whatsoever to my plants. and even if it did make my plants produce a few seeds, who cares, i'll take some free feminized seeds.

It depends on the plant. Some can tolerate pin hole light leaks better than plants. Some really need a total absence of light to fruit quickly and other plants do fine. Some may get stressed out and hermy.

Most outdoor strains tolerate light better because they've been genetically selected to do so.

Light sensitivity really varies from plant to plant. Generally though a little light leak won't do dick. Look at all the people growing in cabinets or those pre-fabed setups. Those things leak light mad crazy and they still grow weed.

Depends on how much light is leaking in and what type. For me it was HPS lighting from my veg area leaking in and caused a lot of issues. No hermies. I first realized this when I had a tray that after 4 weeks was barely in bloom. I knew I had some small leaks but didnt beleive it could really cause an issue. Well after an extra 3 weeks of blooming the strain then usual and half the yield at best I found out it DOES matter. Spent some time sealing it up a lot bette and it went back to normal. Had outdoor plants this year that all bloomed weeks later near some CFL lights. Was like half the plant that could see the light took 3 weeks longer then the other halves that were mostly blocked from them. Was wierd looking at the plants like this. One pin hole wont do anthing but a lot of them will.
