Epsom salts made my plant turn yellow

Hi all, I have a really good friend who is doing his first grow, he is at the end of week four flowering and his plants looked beautiful, he used 1/2 a teaspoon on Epsom salts per 5ltr of water for a one off feed to keep the cal+mag levels up, after 3 days, them beautiful lush green plants are turning yellow from the bottom to midway up the plant. I would suggest a flush to get a the toxins out, and then leave the medium to dry out and a light feed on 1/2 the strength of the normal nutes given, all organic grow. I would appreciate any input on this matter as I want to give him the best advice possible!

i heard epsom salt help them absorb more nutes so i dont see why they gone yellow myself :-/ i did the same half spoon of salt to 5ltrs water and also put the nutes in aswell i seen no difference tbh so i dont bother to use it no more and mine go yellow if they have too much water, from my experience its best to leave them dry and tell you when they need nutes and water it works best for me

Not the epsom salts. thats a good dosage. Epsom is magn, sulfate. No calcium............It's a number of things most likely nitrogen faiding, you want that in the last weeks. Plants probably just a bit N hungry.

yep what he^ said yellowing is nitrogen def. has nothing to do with the epsom.and what brewing said to much watering will cause yellowing as well as the nutrients get locked out ,soil has to dry for the nutrients to become avaliable to the plants horticulture 101

you said above you had watered it a few times but yea it could also be N i agree sorry

Hi guys thanks for your reply/s, now this guy is really careful with the watering so I am kinda sure that it's not that. I know the last amount of nutes given b4 the Epsom salts. Was 1mil grow and 1 mil bloom of biobizz per ltr of water and at this the plants were lush green and looking pretty nice. That was just 3 days before they had the Epsom salts!! Do you think the Epsom salts robbed the nutes? So maybe I should tell him to hold off on the flush and wait till the plant dries out completely !?. Iam a bit stumped with this one. Your thoughts would be most appreciated.

Most likely a nitrogen deficiency. Yellowing starts at the bottom and works its way up. The leaves that have faded won't come back. Plants at the mid-flower stage use a lot of nitrogen in the construction of the flowers and if they can't get it from the soil or foliar feeding they will steal it from other parts of the plant in order grow.

Over watering causes the plants to look like they are iron deficient and that starts at the top not the bottom. A deficiency of Magnesium would appear on the bottom leaves of the plant and would have a striped look. Pictures would help a lot. Good luck

I too would have said N def from the start, but he had been given the ladies biobizz grow all the way through the flowering stage, the kicker is that up until the epsom salts were given the ladies were looking lush green and super cute, then 3 days after administration of the Epsom salts the ladies started to yellow. The Epsom was only given as a preventive measure, which now I think that it may of been his mistake. One of the main rules I had when I used to grow nice MJ was look to your plants and they will show you the signs first before you start asuming something's wrong. I have no pic's as this info is just for my good friend, but I have informed him of all your comments which are greatly appreciated. He has decided to let the ladies dry out for a few days and then feed the reg nutes as before, 1mil of grow,bloom and topmax per ltr, also some cold pressed seaweed. If anyone has any more comments or feedback then I would be glad to read them!

All organic... Yet he uses Cal-Mag?

probably over-watering. most common newb issue. that is hardly any Epsom salt.

if it ain't wet, perhaps hungry. as above posters have stated.

Not cal-mag, I got that wrong sorry it's been a while since I even thought about growing! To keep the magnesium levels up as a precaution. He used Epsom salts. This was a one off dose if I may refer to what I had already wrote in another post. So if you consider that one off dose to render his crop non organic then that's your opinion, but I definitely 100% would refer to his crop as organic.

Also that qoute from prof Gor. If that's what your influenced by then maybe take a deep look inside yourself, and stop smoking the green to cover up the demons!

Yep I would agree with that as all angles point to hunger, but he's gonna let them to dry out and give the reg nutes in a few days anyway. Thank yall for your replys, the feedback is well appreicted. :~D
