damn qwizo ive seen a lot of your posts around here n I gotta say the dueche is strong in you....

iv never ran autos but as long as light penetration isnt an issue cfls work ok for a tight budget . if space or temp isn't a prob have you considered maybe a 150 hps?

Lol.......first for everything I suppose.
What I was implying was that light is measured in lumens..2100 is required to sustain photosynthesis, 7 is the sun on average. 10 is the sun at its strongest. Interestingly enough our beloved plant has adapted to be able to handle the sun..likewise 10k per sqft can bleach if constant. We aim for 7...it has nothing to do with watt per plant etc..
You calculate the size of the plant and light up accordingly

Light penetration shouldnt be a problem I hve blackout mylar an yes I have looked up 150 hps do you know any where that sells them at a decent price?

As of right now I have 2 5k bulbs that are 23 watt an 1600 lumens each, 2 2700 bulbs that are 23 watts and 1600 lumens each, and 1 like 6k bulb thats 20 watts an 1045 lumens

150w hps for $70 but I would keep the CFL's with this for side lighting. a 150 isn't all that powerful.

other than that you'll need more than 5 cfls for a full grow. even with autos. I've seen people having upwards of 600w of CFL's in a closet. that's actual watts, not equivalent.

Thanks a lot, does a hps bulb take a plant all the way through the plants cycle? So I wont have to switch bulbs
Whats ur opinion on 90 watt led's?

I veg and flower under hps..mainly for simplicity and the bulb lasts twice as long while seeming to produce less heat (bout 10° cooler out the tube, 600 watt cool tubes) and more lumens

Cfl/mh produces slightly better bud

I was wondering if 5 cfls that are 23 watts each and different kelvins and a fluorescent 20 watt is enough to grow an auto or 2?
You can never ever have too much cfl's on your grow, no mater the size...

You got a 3 x 3 box put in as many CFL's as possible...if 50 will fit and not over heat your tent... put 50 in it...

Too many CFL's on a MJ plant... is an Oxymoron....

Thanks how big of a hps do you use an with how many plants?

....well figure I'll respond too
I have Apollo 600 watt cool tubes...I also keep my original cfl cab around. Its about 750 actual watts in a 20x24" stacked rubbermaid tote

I run sog..depends on genetics/how bushy they grow vs totem poles..generally 12-15 per light, gallon pots. Cool tubes are in an "open grow" style

CFL's in Veg...
alot... around...
40 -23 watts....
5--65 watts
4--40 watts
2--32 watts
veg the plants in CFL [mixed spectrum]
Bud them under mixed ...HPS/MH...

Sounds expensive lol how far should cfls be away from my seedlings that are only 23 watts an how far should a 150 hps be away?

check out my thread 552 watts cfls on 10 plants. 100 watts actual for first plant then add 50 for each additional plant. just be sure to use reflectors to maximize the light and it should be fine.

Well total my cfl cab cost less than $100 including lights dirt nutes y splitters etc..
Apollo was $189 shipped to me. Another 50 for everything else on that..
So I suppose that can be pricey depending on your current situation. But it pays for itself in no time

23 watt bulbs should be 1-2" inches from the plant, heat being the limiting factor there. They don't throw enough light individually to bleach but be careful if you put a lot that close, just watch it and see...
I don't know about a 150..below 9" my 600 can bleach I like 12".. I would suggest 6-8 on a 150 but again just watch for bleaching and see the plants response, stretch etc

Lmao 50 watts for each additional plant. Did you not see my post on lumens? Efficiency changes with increase in watts so lumens aren't linear with watts. Besides the fact that it doesn't take into account size of the plant

That's tricky. I really love the bud off my cfl cab, that's why I keep it going.. but you'll quickly see its a huge pain in the ass, you end up having to raise the bulbs daily because they have to be so close to be effective. This means that if you simply make an overhead light the tallest plant gets most and lumens drop dramatically the further down the plant. To be most efficient you really need to be able to move each individual bulb. Having that type of setup is tricky and even more so to raise everyday..
You will burn your plants at least once

Personally I would just get the hps and use what lights you have now for side lighting...or splurge and get a 600. Eventually you'll want one

Oh and I use mg bloom booster for all stages of life vs whatever you said

if heat isn't an issue I'd get the HPS, you'll get better penetration. keep the CFLs on the side to supplement though.

i think im goin to take both of your advice an get a 150 hps an use my 23 watt down the side some how just have to figure out how to be able to get them along the side do you grow autos?
