Are there really unions that guarantee lifelong employment? I spent decades working through a union that allowed my employer to fire me like a sucker.

I think you must be confused about how this works. A union doesn't just tell an employer what the fuck they're going to do and how they're going to do it. The two sides negotiate until they reach a deal. They sign a contract and both parties honor that contract. If your hypothetical employer signed a contract that took away his right to fire people then it's not the union's fault.

You were the guy that wanted to use force to keep your $18 an hour job and said tough shit to the guy that would work for less.

Taking care of homeless? That can only happen via the government that causes homelessness ? Okaaaay. I prefer to help others directly and voluntarily. Private charity is far more efficient than the oxymoronic "government charity".

And as such, your $18 hr worker has been there for 3 years now, he could use a cost of living adjustment.

I am saying that somebody that works for the state cannot possibly be able to give every persons consent to make payments for a pension. The idea that people can provide others consent is what I disagree with. The state can sign all the contracts it wants to...but they cannot provide my consent or yours unless I / you agree to it.

I would love to live in a direct democracy where we all get to vote on everything, but we don't. We live in a representative democracy (...well actually a constitutional republic, but close enough). We got to live with the decisions our elected officials make. Hope that representative that agreed to the pension plan that you don't like gets as much of your criticism as the union does.

I just figured out why this thread is actually irrelevant, Bucky's been unemployed for over two years, so every weekend is seven day weekend to him!

He must have been referring to the rest of us.

dude, i haven't been unemployed for a year and a half now. i'm what you would call a marginally attached worker.

and my hobby doesn't turn out neon yellow. :lol:
