Energy Cost

Nope,It would cost you more, because your running each individual light which in turn is using 120v per light,at least i think.:blsmoke:
No, Volts remain constant. House wiring is typically 120v regardless of the appliance, except for certain high-power systems (electric dryers, house a/c units). 55 18W-CFL's will use 990 kW/h.

The formula is AMPS x VOLTS = WATTS. Like the example above, the 1000W light is AMPS x 120V = 1000W, so the one light is pulling 8.3 Amps. Or, if you have a wire that says 15 A, you can figure 15A X 120V = 1800W, so you should run no more than 1800W on that wire (this can be useful for calculating amperage in order to see if your power wire is heavy enough gauge so as not to burn su casa down ).

Hi first post here. Just wondering how much power usage sets off red flags?
usually if you have couple of 1000w hps with appliances you may set off some suspicion but may not, just use as much electricity as any house hold user uses and you will be fine...a 400w light should be plenty for a good crop and not have crazy electricity costs:weed:

If you pay the bill in most cases nothing raises any flags anywhere. If you don't trust that then I wouldn't go over 3kw-4kw lights in an average small house. People can be extremely wasteful in other ways with pools and hot tubs and heat and a/c and boatloads of electronics and computers etc. I know a lot of computer geeks running more than that on just electronics, and there are other hobbies like salt water aquariums where you can run thousands of watts of HIDs , or legal indoor growing too. nobody's going to look unless you raise suspision in other ways or steal power.
