We have just had a Black out right in the middle of light period, I have not moved so quick in a long time.............. went from a 2200w setup to 4 stage to a 1400w two stage running off a genarator...... I was lucky....... A quick few leads.......... bit of unleaded i was away again.... only to find the power back on again 1 hour later...... ANY WAY how would you deal with an emergency.............. Have you got a plan , and what is it??
Or have you ever lost a crop due to black out ?????

Sister, I would be. I'm thinking more long term, I want to change over to wind power, but I need to move first. I'm sure there's some kind of retarded city ordinance against having wind power in town.

having a gas generator really lost it's appeal when gas hit over $4.00 per gallon last summer. The price is way down now from that, but it was a taste of what's to come. I'm trying to come up with ways to get off of petrochemicals.

My plants would be history too. Fortunately, although we frequently have brief power outages, lasting a minute or less, it's extremely rare to have one that lasts an hour or more.

they have these things that you plug into an outlet and it has a battery which charges constantly while being plugged in...it works as a power strip with a battery so if your power stops you have 30 or so mins of light too take care of your shit

I actually did have a backup plan in case the elctricity went out....im on cfls though...my plan was to take one of those portable car jumpers, then take this Portawatt thing i have for the car which can convert 300 DC to AC and then just plug that into the jumper and plug a light into the portawatt. i tested it and it worked great...dont know for how long and luckily never had to use it. You certainly couldnt hook your system up to it but if its just a few hours 300 watts is better than none, right? Make sure your jumper is always charged up also.

They had a really bad ice storm over a week ago, some of them won't have their power back on until the middle of this month. It got a lot colder there than usual and people were freezing to death / dying from having generators inside. The national guard was going door to door checking on people.

There were some intense I-reports on CNN with iced over trees cracking loudly and crashing to the ground.

No need for an emergency plan. The year katrina hit new orleans one of the smaller ones hit my house. Power was out for 5 days, the plants just sat in the dark the whole time. They ended up harvesting just fine. Not a single hermie.
