I wasnt sure exactly where to post this, so here ya are.
I'm pretty sure that most of us have received some sort of email scam that promises great fortune and wealth if we help the person out with some sort of financial transaction. Usually from the Kings son, Prince Whateverthefuckhisnamewas, asking for some kind of account number or something of the sort. I have received a few but never bothered to read the whole thing.
But this morning I read one that really pissed me off. Without going into my personal views as to whether or not I support the war in Iraq, I know people who are over there and will always support our troops. This email is obviously a scam by someone who claims to be a US soldier.
Hi there,
How is everything going back home, I hope great? Though I have not considered this medium to be the best manner to have approached you on this issue being that the internet has been greatly compromised over the recent years and is very unsecured for informations of vital importance. However, I have decided to take the chance seeing that no other means could have been faster and more efficient than the E-mail. I write to you irrespective of the fact you do not know me, but please do consider this letter as a request from a brother in dire need of assistance.
I am Lance Corporal Robert Barnes, a US marine, currently serving in the third infantry division in Iraq. My fellow comrade and myself secretly moved some abandoned cash in a mansion belonging to the slayed former president of Iraq, Saddam Husein and the total cash is $25 Million USD. We have discovered the cash for some months now but we waited until the verdict for his death sentence has been passed and we are sure there is no way anybody could trace the money.
As I write this letter to you, this box is here with me in cash as I secretly moved it out of Iraq to Kuwait. You do not have to be afraid of anything as no one else knows about this and everything is safe. I would be pleased and grateful to you if you could assist us in receiving this box for us on your behalf as I will be heading back soon to camp in Iraq to join my collegues. Of course, I will give you some money for your efforts. Ordinarily, I would have felt more comfortable contacting my family or friends back home but see I couldn't do that because they are listed as acquitances in my military file and to contact them may compromise the confidentiality of this transaction as our superior have a way of monitoring convos between us and our family and friends.
Moving the funds out of here is not gonna be much of a problem as arrangements are already in place towards that. All I want from you is your trust and assurance that if the box gets to you, you can keep it in a safe place until our arrival. I have to stop here for now. We have limited time, kindly get back to me immediately if you are interested in this transaction.
In God we trust,
Lance Corporal Robert Barnes
