Elephant grow and first SCROG?

Hi guys,

I did a thread in growroom setup and design, documenting my first grow which was "supposedly" a white widow strain, its been harvested last weekend, and i just transplanted my new strain into the room(s). (Elephant).

I'll be using this thread to document it from start to finish. I have one room that has the main bed, and the plants are in net pots, in sunshine 4 mix. there are 3 - 1000w HPS in that room, and there is one smaller room with a small bed in there that the remainder are planted in, which i plan to try a scrog type grow, it has 2- 1000w hps. Im busy this week re-doing the ventilation, and light hoods, also installing the 4 light flip. ill post some pics here shortly.

---EDIT-----

I built my 2 DIY vented hoods today. I got the glass cut and installed. I got the 24x24" blue star reflectors and put 6" ducts in them and seealed them up, adding 24"x24" glass. theyshould work great in the small room! I also got my 12/12 flip box mounted and ready for going 12/12 this weekend. i just need to hang the new reflectors in the main room and re-do the ventilation. lots of work for the next couple days. Basically all new equipment for this next round. :-)

Ok, Its time to kick this off. Ive got the rooms 98% re-done, brand new lights, and all new ventilation is set up. I hung three new blue star 24x 24 hoods with new 1000w HPS bulbs in the big room today, replacing the old school umbrella's. I say, I really like the way the light is thrown down over the bed! And the small plants have 3-4 days before I flip them to 12/12, I was going to do it today, but I gave them one more watering of veg juice at 600 ppm, I figure I'll flip em on Wednesday, and I'll do the little rewiring to run 4 lights on my 12/12 flip box, leaving one light to run off a timer (three in the big room).

The clones i took, of the strain (Elephant) came off buddy's room, He had them in flower for 20 days when i took them, so i inadvertently (supercropped). I rooted them in peat pellets, and they all rooted within 10 days, I then moved them to small pots and vegged them for a week, then transplanted them all in the beds last weekend, leaving them under 16/8 light to Veg. They are all doing very well, just taking a bit longer than normal to get to the flip point. I'd say about 14 days longer.... next time i'll take them 2 weeks earlier from buddy's room, this way I don't need mother plants. I'll root them, and put them in small pots under floro's on a table for 2 weeks to let them flip back to Veg before i put them in the main rooms.

So far i've given these little girls weak solution's of veg food, and some rooting stuff initially, ive given them one watering in between of zero water. All i need to do to finish up my renovations is to run 2-4" vent lines off the 8" inbetween the rows of pots. put my auto watering system on the main bad and smaller scrog bed, and do a bit of clean up/re-sealing. It was ALOT more work than I anticipated changing all the lights/venting out. I dont wanna do it again!

anyways, here are some pictures. I'll take some tomorrow of the plants, and properly start journaling them.

New lights in big room
---------------------

Small room setup:
------------------

I plan on running a screen overtop the small room and trying to SCROG them, there is PLENTY of light for those little girls, as there are 2 -1000w halides in there. The next round I plan on trying a flood and drain system in there, prolly in rockwool cubes. I've always wanted to make the switch to hydro, but just havn't made the jump. This way I wont be risking too much, I'll still have my big room in the soil-less mix in pots, the old tried and true. If I sucessfully can run a flood and drain water system in the small room, I will consider making the switch over right across the board. Maybe even going to an NFT system, or airoponics. We'll see.

Heres an updated pic of the small room, and the lights ventilation, im drawing air from the hole with the blue filter on it, and its goes through the wall to a window outside. I tried the lights today, and put a thermometer probe in the output tube, just after the last light, the air was 95 degrees, and i could easily place the back of my hand on the glass directly under the bulb it was so cool. It should work great.

And here are the little girls, I transplanted them in the bed last sunday, so its been 8 days. they are looking great! I think i'll let them veg till thurs/fri, then run the flip box for 12/12.... :-) they sure have grown alot in a week!

This shows my auto watering system back in place. I can't wait to start using it again, i really hate manually watering! this may be the last round of sunshine4 mix in beds as well, the switch to hydro is coming soon i think!

Thats it for now! I'll update the pics when i do the 12/12 flip, and finish the little bit left with the ventilation. let me know what ya'll think so far! Oh, and has anyone here ever grown "Elephant" before? let me know!

Hey! just a little update. I put the whole schebang in 24 hr dark for the 12/12 flip! I also finished wiring the flip box and all the lights for it today, and DAMN, it works good! I also wired up the fan that runs air through the hoods (in the smaller room), off the relay power, so that when the lights go on in that room, the fan starts along with them! This way i dont need to rely on a timer, and risk it not coming on. I wish there would be a way so that it would run for 5-10 minutes after the lights go off so it would be able to cool down the bulbs for a while. i'll have to look into that.

i also completed the auto watering pipes in for the smaller bed, and did quite a bit of cleaning up of the wiring. Tomorrow i'll hang the door for the smaller room and figure out where i'll get cool, fresh air for the smaller room. Everything for the 2'cnd run reno should be completed tomorrow. Ive watered by hand till now, and the roots are growing out of the net pots now, so i'll be using the auto water from now on. I gave them 3 shots of veg food at the 600 ppm mark, with zero water, ph'd to 6.5 in between feedings. The first full water will prolly be 500-600 PPM bloom, Friday. I went to buddy's today to check up his Elephant strain progress, he is at week 6 bloom, and the buds are huge, by the trichome development seems kind of weak, with not too much to look at, I dunno why, but his white widow was lacking trichome's like crazy when they were done, while mine were glistening with them, Im hoping my run with this strain has massive amounts to the sticky stuff, unlike his. They also have a MAJOR infestation of bugs again as well! I picked up on them Monday, as I seen small specks on the leaves, an inspection of the underside showd me what looked like some sort of aphis, and spider mites! shitty! I dont have any at this point, but I will spray my mix of rosemary oil/safers soap for the next 10 days, just to be on the safe side. Pics to follow, stay tuned!

guys, just a quick update. I have been monitoring daily for bugs, i have none, ive fore gone the spraying. And since my last update, ive watered twice, with 500 ppm A&B bloom. And they have grown like CRAZY since the 12/12 flip! Ill take some pictures tonight. Its strange how they have grown since they were inadvertently "super cropped", or cloned after 20 days flower. They are not growing out one main chute, but a bunch of them. It'll be interesting to see how they produce.

the new ventilation is keeping it at 80 degree's, in both rooms, its awesome. here are some pictures i took yesterday, and ill take some tonight, the difference 24 hrs makes is crazy!

They look droopy in the main room because I took pics when the lights were off, and they were needing watering.... i watered the bed right after :-)

hi people!

I have to show some updates! Its been a long time, and things are going great! Since i turned them over 4 weeks ago, they are growing, and growing! Its been a heat wave here, and its wreaked havok on other growers, but my set up has pulled through without an issue! its 90+F outside, and my rooms are staying 80 or so, with the lights on. The 12/12 box is awesome, and my DIY vented hoods are working JUST GREAT! The temps in the small room, with the 2-1000's in it are just awesome. Anyways, here are some pics!

Well, thats it for now, I'll take a few more in a week or so, and ill add, the fact that i "supercropped", by taking clones off my buddy's at 20 days in bud, sure looks like it will really make a difference! I have MANY more tops than he did, and they managed 5 lbs off of 73 plants.... I'm hoping to get 6+! ;-) Anyways, what ya'll think?

Later!

hey guys, just a small update. I watered the big room friday, and the small one yesterday, and im seeing that the buds in the small room are growing way tighter than in the large room. its quite a difference. It almost looks like it will be done a couple weeks ahead of the larger one, and i cant figure out why? They just seem further advanced, and they were planted on the same day, and flipped to 12/12 on the same day. They receive the same water/food, the only difference is that they are in different rooms, and the small rooms girls are receiving better light as the lights are closer together. Its strange, and i'd like to know what the cause is for this to happen like this? any idea's?

wow. its crazy. the girls in the small room certainly look like they will be done in 6 weeks, while the ones in the big room will prolly take eight, maybe seven. the girls in the small room are all growing rock hard nugs, the calyx's are swollen like crazy! the others are much looser, although they are getting much larger, in the end, once they swell up, they will be absolutely huge. this crop looks absolutely awesome so far! Ill post updated pics in the next day or so.

yeah, it looks sativa, but ill tell ya, its indica. it stays very short, and buds very fast! the smell is citrus like, like fruit loops on steroids! here are some updates, the big room's buds are really starting to swell up now as well! the small rooms pics arn't the best, as the lines in the pic really suck, ill see if i can get some with the lights out soon.

Ill post some updates in a weeks time! and see if i can get some good ones of that small room! So far they are almost week 5 of 12/12, at this rate they look like they will be done around week 7! I'm thinking its time to start flushing the small room, we'll see how it looks in a couple/3 days.

You said you're just starting week 5 holy smokes Batman you must have some serious genetics. You got cola's growing cola's. lol. If it's not airy I gotta find some elephant.

yep, its on week 5 now.... and the smaller rooms buds are anything but airy. they are ROCK HARD nugs! they are filling out more and more every day, and i think i'll hit them with approx a 500 ppm feeding on the next one, and then begin flushing, with a possible cut down at 7 weeks give or take. thats what it looks like, although, nothing is written in stone, ill observe them and they will dictate the cut down time.

the big room, well it looks like it will need a bit more time, and will prolly go the full 8 weeks, but there to, only time will tell.

I really, really like this strain, and if you can get your hands on it, i urge you to give it a go!

I thought Id post another pic of my "control panel", as i got a better pic of the flip box and timers for the ventilation, and ballasts. its the heart of the operation!

Well, thats it for now! Ill post some new ones when their at the end of week 5! Hopefully the shade leaves will start turning soon, and they will be ready at the end of week 6!

Hold on there!!!!! i was stating i was starting week 5, well, its actually starting week 6. somehow i was off by a week. Anyways, they are at week 6 now, and im starting to flush the small room starting now. They dont look like they will grow anymore, maybe swell up more, but even that looks done! they are hard as rock now already. The big room's buds are really starting to swell up to. I watered them tonight with a full 1200 PPM solution (PH 6.7), consisting of Advanced Nutrients A/B, and blossom blaster.

Well, i just came home from an out of town trip, and checked my girls out. And damn, i wish i would have screened them now! a bunch of them had fallen over, so i propped them up till I have more time tomorrow to do a proper job of stringing them up. They are starting to swell up now and get heavy. They have approx. 3 weeks left, and i imagine they will be absolutely huge by then! The ones in the smaller room have swelled right up already, and im thinking they will come down in about 10 days or so! w'll see what they do in these last days!

Grinnzy my main man that shit looks chronic. If they are falling over they are still packing on the lbs. lol. I think 10 more days will be well worth the wait. Very nice work with those pics as well. Keep that green thumb working.
