Hi all, anyone in London or England for that matter? I've just ordered a 600w hps, grow tent, atami wilma etc. Just want to know if anyone in the uk is running a 600w light and how much it would cost to run? I just had a £150 quaterly bill throught the door. How much would I be looking to pay on top of this? I will be running 18/6 for veg then 12/12 for flowering.

Thanx

Do the following....

1. Check your 'leccy bill and find out the price per Unit your paying
2. If you have more than one unit price charged....calculate an average

My average Unit Cost is 11.5p per unit

3. A Unit is equivalent to 1000w per hour or 1kW/hr so a 600w HPS would burn 0.6 units per hour

4. Multiply your Unit Cost with the 0.6 units of the HPS. In my case 11.5p x 0.6 = 6.9 pence per hour. In other words to run a single 600w HPS costs 6.9 pence per hour. Two 600 HPS' would cost 13.8 pence per hour and so on.

5. To calculate a daily or weekly amount just work out the number of hours the light(s) are on and multiply by this number. So if I had two 600 HPS' on for 12 hours per day it would be:-

2 x 6.9 pence x 12 hours = 165.6p for 12 hours lighting or £1.65 round figures.

this helped me work mine out so i hope it helps you

I am running a 600w HPS 125w CFL and a few fans.

I pay by direct debit and didnt want them to just watch my meter go up and up each month so i rang them told them that i was using more electricity because of aquariums. Got a better deal and pay an extra £12 a month. I also use 125w CFL for approx 2 weeks of veg then switch to the hps for 2-4 more weeks of veg and then switch.

when you consider what you save by growing your own the extra electric costs however big or small dont really seem that bad.
