Electrical awareness

Hello all I am looking to upgrade my operation in the near future again but I am getting worried about my electrical footprint, currently I am not at my house I grow offsite at a car shop and our electrical history has been sub $100 bill per month currently it is $400 a month and the next jump might be almost $1000 per month now this looks suspicious obviously especially with the new smart meters that show lights on and off I just want to know what to do to keep electric company happy and off my ass, I pay them on time and havent had any issues yet but dont want any any tips?

I mean you’ll still pay the same but they won’t see the spikes. Maybe add a “machine shop” to the business title. Can easily justify the heavy loads and claim 24/7 operation

5000w I am currently using would be to 20kw or 25kw I use 1000w dehps just planning for later this year because if i need to change something I'm doing now that might help me later I'd like to prepare my electric rate is like .055 per kwh or so and that 5000w is just lights not including the extra watts from equipment

Yeah, peak rate $0.134/kwh, mid-peak $0.094, off peak $0.065.
OP, does your power company have peak and off peak rates? If they do it gives you a good excuse to be running your heaviest loads at night.

Honestly the only real way to stay under the radar would be a diesel generator (prime rated). If you can hide the noise and haul fuel at night it's pretty stealthy. Then the power company is your backup lol

I'm wondering it I make the electric a buisness account vs a personal account and make the electric level out over the day by running rooms on opposite schedules would be good enough to keep them happy as long as I am paid in full on time.

Also is paying ahead on my electric like paying a lump sum to cover multiple months in advance a bad idea does that look bad to them?

you can opt out of the smart meters (here in CO at least). they charge you more though.
