Hi everybody (hi docter nic)
I want to get my veg room started NOW!!! so i went and got this extension lead

thats a 50metre lead. I need about 40m so ill trim 10m off the plug side and sorten it so it will be fully unwound. it reads 13A 3120w fully unwound

I want to run this list:

7.5w water pump X2= 15w
24w 2' T5 floresent X2= 48w
34w 3' floresent = 34w
15w extract fan = 15w
15w oscillating fan = 15w
PLUS
50w 4' T5 floresent X8 = 400w
OR
400w metal halid = 500w

TOTAL WATS = 550W (T5) - 650W (HM)
650w / 230v = 2.8 amps

Q1: Is 2.8amps running right? i know electrics use more on start up so ill have them timed to come ON at differnt times

Q2: The 7.5w water pump has a 3amp fuse in the plug and the 600w digital ballist has a 9amp fuse. Do i need to add up all the fuses in the plugs.

Q3:(when money permits) ill add in a circut to the board say a 15-20amp breaker with 12 guage wire to run about 40 metres away. Is this correct guage wire

Q4: Would a 15-20amp circut breaker handle the veg room 650w + bloom room which will have about 1500 wats? (600hps lights pumps the works basicly)

The watts mean nothing really as far as electric goes. You need to worry about amps . I wouldnt think you can run both rooms on same breaker. Not a good idea. You should run them on their own breaker. The gauge wire mentioned is ok. You can run a double 20 amp breaker and that should run both rooms. Good idea about having different start up times.

Thanks for the reply but do you mean i have to run two 12gauge wires
i am counting the amps in the plugs and they go like this

bloom room
600w hps= 9amps
water pump= 3a
fan = 3a
ext fan = 3a
air pump = 3a
total = 21 but i can time the air pump OFF when the extract fan comes ON so TOTAL = 18

On second thought you should just run two 15 amp breakers and split the amps between the two to be safe. It should be easier than wirinng a 220 breaker to run 110. 12 gauge is ok. Youll need a feed from each breaker....but then youll be good to go with no problems or fire worries.
 
It sounds like you're mixing 240v applications and 120v appilcations here.. Your lights can most likely run off any voltage given that your ballasts are Universal/Multi-Tap, But Your pumps and fans appear to be 120volts.. You need to have a dedicated line for 240/230v applications and dedicated circuits for 120v applications..

If you run your lights off 120v to be safe get a Roll of 12/3 Romex, That has a Ground a Black Red and White wire in it.. By NEC you're not supposed to load a breaker over 80% of it's ampacity... So for a 20amp circuit that's only 16 amps. You could just get a 10/2 romex and one Single Pole 30amp breaker that'll give you 24 available amps to load safely in accordance with the NEC... But You're loading 21 amps so I would just get a 2 pole breaker (remember when you share a neutral between 2 circuits you're supposed to use a common trip breaker not 2 single pole breakers) 12 gauge is good for 20 amps and now you'll have 2 circuits over there 40 amps fed 80%= 32amps which should be more than enough..

And Watts does have a significance.. IF you only know the WATTS then you can convert using simple formulas to get how many Amps you'll pull Amps = Volts/Watts..

well I'm not as familiar with electric out your way so you'd probably be better off hearing from someone used to your power.

I'm not sure but if all those devices say "230v" then it looks like your math is right

- The fuse is there for a power surge/short.. but I'm not sure what voltage. If it is switchable than that could be a fuse for "worst case scenario" of a lower voltage rating. (like 120v) Meaning there would be more load/amps at that voltage. If you're running 230v on it than it would take ALOT more volts to pop that fuse. So I would get a second opinion.

Yes, 12g wire is great

if EVERYTHING listed is 230v then yes, a 20amp would work. 15 really but with no room too add so stick with 20. My guess is that the smaller items.. like the water pump, fan, etc are all different voltages so you'll need to do the math separately for each.

Again, this is making some assumptions so take it for what its worth since I'm not from around there. Whenever you change voltage it changes the game. Good luck
