Electric Company called

SO like the title says, yesterday I got a call from my local electric company. The nice young woman on the other end informed me that they had noticed a substantial increase in my usage over the past few months. I told her that I was aware of the increase. She then started to tell me that it was a fairly large increase and had I been running some heaters or something? I again told her that I was aware of the increase and it was not a problem. She did not seem to comprehend what I was telling her and she started to again suggest I may have an issue and that is when I interrupted her and said. Excuse me miss, I grow marijuana. If you will look at my consumption you will notice that it went up sharply in the fall when I started my indoor grow again. If you look farther back you will see that it dropped sharply last April just like it will next month when I go outdoors again. After an uncomfortable moment I thanked her for her concern and asked if there was anything else I could help her with. Man it's good to be in a legal state. :joint:

I have gotten the call before. I say I have been welding with 110 welders a lot, they seemed to believe it. Incase anyone doesn`t know, with smart meters they can tell what voltage you are running the most, the watts, and from what I have heard operating frequency of the device. I bet that would be enough for a warrent in some crappy areas.

Mine doubled when I built my indoor flower room, 2 1k lights, a/c and dehumidifier, I got a couple letters saying I'm using more than anyone else in my neighborhood, no calls or visits though.

It doesn't make sense to me, they sell electricity, I always pay my bill. They should like me using so much. More money for them. It would be like me telling someone Not to buy that much cannabis from me. I could only imagine the look on there face, "are you sure you want to buy a whole oz"

I think they are just trying to figure out if you have an electrical issue.
If you dont they offer ways to save money on your bill.

Its a courtesy check if you will.

Your brave even tho your in a legal state. I would have lied it might have gone something like this.......... my girl has an old vibrater that has bin handed down in her family for several generations she's a drunk so sometimes she falls asleep and leaves it plugged in....

They may have wanted to alert u to the fact that unless u were using the power someone else is so that would mean someone is stealing electric from your line.

Good point, when I used to sell in high school I ran into this chick in the getto that was stealing from her neighbor. They ran an extension chord with 2 male ends, it would power up a circuit.

when I found a box of old christmas stuff, I was going thru it and found a 4 inch extension cord that had a male plug on both ends. My mother told me my dad had made it to fix a christmas light problem....Crazy!

Im surprised they even called. I've had bills near $3000 / month without any interest.
Holy Christ!.....lol

My power company noticed, they sent a guy out to read the meter and called. I told them house is poorly insulated, which is true actually...only the space heaters were in the flower room. That part I omitted.

The real question is how much are the ones getting the calls using on average. I don't think they would call about 3000 watts running 24/7 it's only like a $200-$300 bill a month nothing to crazy.
