Ec and PPM

So I was looking around on the forums and online. What options do i have if i wanted to lower both of these. Currently I should have 1.2-1.6 EC and its 2.6 and the PPM is 1560 when it should be 1200.

Would adding Ph up and Ph down have any effect on this?

I will soon put up a grow journal too, to show you guys my progress and it might help on the info a tad.

Hey milehigh, this should ease your burning nutrient woes. Firstly

pH up or down does not have any effect on lowering the ppm of your solution! In fact, it could raise the ppm since you are dissolving more into the solution. If you want to lower your solution, you have a couple of options.

1) Scoop out some of your solution, and replace what you take out with distilled water (reverse osmosis water will work). This is if you can't raise the nutrient solution any higher in your bucket.

2) If the levels in the bucket are not too high and can be raised a little, then just add distilled water or anything that is filtered to remove sediments of any kind.

If your solution is too concentrated and you are finding that absurd amounts of water are needed to lower it, then it might be better to make a new solution altogether. Let me know how things are going and make sure the water that goes into your res. is always dechlorinated (helpful advice for newbies :P). If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

Well when I get home today I will add plain distilled water to the resevoir and check the chlorine. Should I add PH down the the distilled water when I add it?

The PH of the water at my house is a constant 8. If i add the distilled water to the resevoir, I am assuming it will raise the PH of the resevoir. This may be a problem. If the PH of the resevoir gets raised to 6.5 or 7, from 6 which it usually is. I will have to add more PH down, thus getting back to my first issue. Got any ideas?

Your missing something... EC is a measurement of electrical conductivity, and PPM (Parts per million) is a conversion from EC, which there are two different mathematical conversions typically.

EC is the only true measurement.

You Ph is a measurement of acidity..Your Ph will fluctuate as you add or remove nutrients to your reservoir, which will either increase or decrease your EC.

ALWAYS, lemme repeat ALWAYS adjust your PH, AFTER you add your nutes and water.

Nutes affect the PPM
Water (RO, or Tap) will affect the PPM as well
RO + - 80ppm, or LESS, Tap, depending where your at, could affect it 180 -490 ppm
Distilled water has a PPM rating of 0, so adding distilled water would be the best way to not effect your PPM.

Bro, I dont think you get it either...

Your right, the Ph should be adjusted after you mix your nutrients in the water, some people let it sit over night before adjusting when mixing up a fresh batch.

Your EC is going to go down when you dilute your solution. The Ph will also change because the siltation you are adding (which ever type of water it is) has it's own Ph (Distilled is about 7).

Anyway the point being, your speaking about dilution, but you don't seem to understand what is happening chemically.

no offense.
