Thanks for the diagram but can you clarify the float switches for me, how many are there & what are 1,2,3,4&5 also what is the black object joining 1 & 2 together?

That is just a wire connector, joining Float Switch 1 & 2

Thanks for the quick reply, could you make a diagram to show the positions of the float switches on the controller bucket please. I assume one is above the other on the bottom but not sure about the 3 at the top. I'm going to have a go at making one of these :)

1 last question, top switches - when they lift do they 'make' or 'break' the connection and the same for the bottom when they drop (make or break) ?
You can probably tell i'm no electrician :lol:

Well it seems good info although if they are flipping a relay it could have been either :)
What about the bottom when they drop (make or break) ?

I've re-done your diagram , can you check this for me to make sure I did it right?
I'm in the uk so terminology and colours may be a little off for you guys :lol:
