Ebb And Flow Medium Question

Hi All,

for the ebb n flow - what if the plants are in 1.5 inch rockwool cubes and in 6 inch square pots with holes in the bottom with hydroton packed around the side and covering the top of the rockwool cube - and i use nothing (no hydroton) to cover the sourrounding area outside of the pots...

I understand that roots shouldn't be exposed to light. so...

what if i cut the roots if it got too long / outside of the pot to prevent light interference... theoretically it shouldn't matter because the size of roots don't matter in a hydroponic system... Right?

Its fine you are able to trim roots but keep in mind that this will stress the plant so the more you cut the more your plant will b stressed

Ihave never cut roots and don't think I ever would. If you are filling in a tub that holds mutiple plants just add your clay pelets all around your pots to cover the roots. You might just like what you see! Really!

Maheim's idea sounds much better to me :) unless you have an unknown specific reason why that wouldn't work for u!

U don't have to really worry bout the roots coming out the bottom the light tends to prevent that if ur looing to grow the plants bigger and want a bigger root mass might I recomend using a coco mat way easier then hydroton chk my journal I'm using one and love it hope this helps out

I use 5" poys in my ebb flow...

I see roots escaping the pots sometimes... no biggie...

They will just get air pruned.. no need to touch them...

and no need to add anything to the tray, you will only cause more trouble than good...

Just keep your pots on the tray, and simply IGNORE any stray roots... it's just not a concern...
