hi, i have a 3'x3'x4' cabinet that i will be growing in, i plan on having 16 easy ryders in 2 gallon pots. but i have a question.. will freshly germinated seeds be ok under a 600w hps?? how far should i keep the light above them? my cab is 4' remember, im using a euro air cooled hood with a 190cfm inline blower

thanks!

They will be okay as long as they aren't too close. Seeds/clones are supposed to be about 3-4' away, and then over time slowly close it in on about 2'. When veg growth takes off, due to the fact that you have a cooled hood, you can get that light as close as 12" while still maintaining a safe distance for heat/burn caution. When you get it to the point where they are loving 12", you will notice very close internodal growth, but be sure to raise it an inch every couple days of veg, as they will sprout lots of new growth in that span.

3'x3'x4' sounds WAYYYYY too small to have 16 plants going in. The easy ryders aren't autos, are they? If they are, then you could possibly fit that as long as they don't branch out much, and some netting when they start to flower would help.

As for the 600watt, that is a great quantity of lumens to disperse over that space, and you should see some really solid results if you take good care of them. You will have the cooling taken care of by using an inline fan on your hood. Making sure that you do a controlled feeding schedule so that you do not burn your girls, along with oscillating fans for good airflow. Proper nutes & airflow will make a big difference in yield, potency, & overall quality of bud. If you really want to try and get as much yield as you can out of it, you should look into a CO2 tank and a regulator unit. All that should cost you around $250 if you want to spend the money. Lots of growers report a minimum 20% increase in yield that should more than pay for itself, and then there are some that claim to CO2 doubling their yields. I saw a big difference when I started using it, but didn't do a good job logging what my first few grows without produced, so I was left guessing and really don't know how much of an increase I saw.

Hope some of these tips help! =)

+rep? what? haha

thanks alot for the response, and yes the easy ryders are auto flowers. I should be able to fit 16 2gal pots in the 3x3 space.
I don't think im ready for c02 yet, this will be my first grow. what do you mean when you suggest netting?
Im getting my financial aid from school tmmrw (3 grand!) and im going to home depot to get supplies to build my cab, this is what i will be making, how does it look?

That's a cool design, bro!

Although you have a veg & flower spaced both @ 4' ... Are you just looking to maximize area for plants and have them flower all at once? Or are you looking to have one level for veg, and another in flowering? If you are looking to do the latter, considering making the veg area 3' tall (as seedlings, clones, & younger plants won't require as much height) and then make the flower segment 5' so that they have extra room to bush out, grow, and develop buds in their final weeks. They'll need it! But again, if you're just looking to split the cab and have two levels of plants budding at once, 4' for each will be ideal as you don't want to favor one set over the other. So make sure you think that part threw on how you plant to cycle using the cab before you build it. Take a look at some other cabinets that you can purchase online and use some of their designs to help build your own custom one. Guys have spent years trying to improve & perfect their cabinets being marketed out there, so taking a look at the design of the guys who know best isn't a bad idea. All the same, feel free to use your own design ideas too and see how they work out, too. Experimenting and doing your own thing can be very fun in growing (atleast when it works out haha)

Anyway bro, good luck on building your cab. Post some pics as your building it & complete. I'd love to see it. And don't go spending all your student financial aid on growing stuff either! Make sure you're stocked up on cases of ramen before you go crazy on it =)

Cheers!
