I love DIY's that are super cheap.

I would be concerned with moisture being retained in the paper and cardboard via humidity which can lead to mold being a problem. Everytime I have seen a cardboard grow cab there has been this point brought up. It's a good idea, but try yardsales or thrift stores for cheap cabinets you can gut and hang a cheap emergency blanket in as mylar. Also, even though CFLs don't run too hot, keep an eye on the temp in that box.

yea, i was worried about putting the hps in there... think it mite start a fire

coat the cardboard with garbage bags and that should take care of that, its cheap and effective when i use it to waterproof certain parts of tanks i build for my animals
