Earl's No budget grow

Hello all at RIU, my grow seems to be surviving this old noobs lack of a green thumb. The girls are seeds that a good friend gave me...unknown strain.
They are in a cabinet I made from scrap,double insulated, 6 CFL's, computer fan intake (4- 80mm) and exhaust (1- 5inch) . 420 soil with 20-25 % perlite using RO water, following and using this thread as a guide: Nutrients for Noobs...Making It Through Your First Grow...so far so good. Week 3 in flower. No matter what I will grow them to completion .

how much room u got left in that cab? might wanna pull down those tops before u get to much farther and they get real woody if not got much room left in there. besides that keep it up looking nice, keep it up and u'll be having some pretty ladies in the end

Thanks Sire Killem All, I got about a foot of room left in the cab. I've been watching the clearance of the ladies. I'll probably have to pull the tops down soon.

yeah you need that light above them ,you got some sativa plant there ,chances are they are still going to get little taller

Thanks old shol4evr... I add 2 more 100 watt cfls , moved the lights up and sorta tied and pulled the tops at an angle....so far so good... sativa plants ? hmmm... as I said not sure of the strain

Yea those thin long leaves are a dead giveaway. Keep em tied down so you wouldnt have to get stress out when she really pushes upward. But looking good.

What kinda nutes are you using?

I don't have the money to do exactly as it says..but it seems to be going alright.. except I did not know I had sativa seeds...
free bag seeds from a good buddy of mine.

sativa has good buzz ,little longer to grow it but well worth the wait

man you don't have to have a thousand dollar grow operation to grow herb ,it just takes imagination ,will and green thumb can you dig it

just plan on 10 weeks or longer to finish they'll tell you when they are done
My last harvest was beautiful and smelled like a trash can full of rotting fruit
i took a little test bud from the cure jar to try and wow..... nice energetic buzz i jammed on my guitar for like 2 hours

Hello All, I'm just starting week 10 of my noobie grow...not sure how much longer with this unknown sativa...seems to be showing signs of being close ?? here are some pics from today...

I took a look with a magnifying glass... I have NO idea what the difference was between magnified and just eyeballing it. Looks the same...orange-ish brown hairs (?) just like in the pics. 2 out of 3 plants have end of life leaves...they fall off at will or when you touch the plant... the top colas/buds seem to still be growing... it is frustrating not having anyone I personally know to check to see if they are close or over ripe ...

How large is your magnifying power? 30x, 60x, 100x? You want cloudy trichomes and brown/orange pistils/hairs. Some people prefer to harvest top first as it tends to mature faster. Are all of your pictures of the same plant?

THEKEVBOT, magnifying glass is probably 30X not very good...but it is all I got... pics are of 3 different plants... tops of all 3 plants seem to still be growing, the lower buds with pistils are the ones with orange-brown-red hairs...being a noob and my first grow I want to to at least have a chance at it being right...

try and get some smaller wattage cfls inbetween the branches to the budsites lower down next time round.. and keep them as close as possible.

I try to average 50watts of cfl power per square foot.

also looks like you need some higher temperature's down in that shed to promote frosty buds as the don't look very trichome rich, did you have and heat source to keep the temperature steady during the night also?

other than that they look like healthy thriving plants. just need a more even light spread.

its a shame I didn't catch this thread sooner, every person I introduce to growing I start off with cfls and they go straight for the biggest bulbs i.e the 300watt+ monster size cfls when 3x 100w bulbs will give you better lumens per sq ft, as cfls lose almost all there lumen power with a foot from the bulb.

I use between 20-100w cfls for almost all of my grows nowdays and I've been through almost all types of lighting, I make my own cfl customised reflectors and utilise them to maintain my heat, humidity, cloning environment, I even use cfls under my clones to keep the soil warm (£2.50 20w cfl vs £15-20 heat mats)
